Chapter 530 Daniel is Dead
"Grace!"
Grace felt as if someone was calling her. She tightly gripped the railing to avoid falling.
She lifted her eyes to look ahead but found nothing; there was no one there.
Just a second ago, she thought she heard Xavier's voice.
He's still abroad; how could he possibly be here? She must have misheard, maybe because she missed him too much.
Taylor felt a bit guilty and didn't dare to touch Grace. She was genuinely afraid something might go wrong.
Daniel was urging her from the other side, and Taylor didn't know what to do.
Grace waved the knife in her hand, knowing it was her last means of self-defense.
"Don't come any closer, don't come any closer..." Grace descended the stairs with the knife, her consciousness gradually fading.
When she was just two steps from the bottom, she couldn't even hold the knife anymore, and it fell to the ground.
Taylor was delighted. Without the knife, what was there to fear? She was about to push Grace.
The door was kicked open, and a man rushed in. Seeing the scene, his pupils contracted sharply.
Taylor's face turned pale. "Xavier?"
How could this be? Wasn't Xavier on a business trip? How could he be here?
Taylor's expression was as if she had seen a ghost, her face ashen.
It's over, completely over.
"Grace!"
Seeing Grace like this, Xavier's heart nearly stopped.
He had only been away for a few days, and Grace had been bullied to this extent. The glaring red blood, Grace's frail body.
Grace felt like she heard Xavier calling her again. Was it an illusion?
Her eyelids were so heavy, the drug's effect had fully kicked in. Grace felt like there was a figure not far away, but she couldn't see clearly.
Her legs gave out, and she fell forward.
"Grace!" Xavier ran over in two steps, faster than he had ever run before.
As Grace fell, he caught her steadily in his arms.
The smell of blood was overwhelming, and his heart ached terribly.
Xavier's hands were trembling; he was just one step too late.
He had finished all his work, almost sleepless for days, just to get back sooner, so he had been on the plane the whole time.
Xavier had just gotten off the plane and called Grace, but her phone was busy, and then no one answered.
He called the people he had arranged to protect Grace and found out what had happened. Xavier floored the gas pedal, not knowing how many speed limits he broke or red lights he ran to get there.
If he had been just a little earlier, even half an hour, maybe nothing would have happened.
But his journey back had been fraught with obstacles, both domestically and abroad, with people constantly trying to hinder him.
Xavier held Grace tightly. She had completely passed out, lying quietly in his arms.
If Xavier hadn't run over to catch her, Grace would have fallen down the stairs.
At this moment, the people behind Xavier also rushed in, and Jared and Taylor had no chance left.
Jared had been monitoring Xavier's movements, knowing he was coming back. He had tampered with the airport to delay the flight, but Xavier had used a private jet to return.
After getting off the plane, he had arranged for people to block Xavier, but this only made Xavier more suspicious, and it didn't work.
Jared had been stalling for time, thinking Daniel might have succeeded by now. Fearing Xavier would find out, he had to back off and clean up any incriminating evidence.
Taylor and Daniel had been caught. Daniel was injured and taken to the hospital.
Taylor's mind was blank. She was finished, completely finished.
Now that she had provoked Xavier, her life might be over.
In a panic, before the people came to arrest her, she ran back to her room, grabbed her phone, and called Brittany.
Brittany answered, "Mom?"
"Brittany, save me! Save me!"
"Did Daniel succeed?" Brittany was more concerned about this.
Taylor said, "I don't know, but it doesn't seem like it."
Taylor told Brittany everything she had seen.
Daniel was really useless. Such a good opportunity, and he didn't take it. Now she had to save Taylor.
Taylor said, "Brittany, you were the one who told me to do this, saying you had a way. Now you have to save me."
"Alright, I got it," Brittany said impatiently.
"Is Daniel still alive?" Brittany asked.
Taylor said, "Yes."
"Then find a way to kill Daniel."
"What? No, why would I do that? If Daniel dies, I won't get any money."
Daniel had promised her money but hadn't given it yet. If he died, the money would go to his wife and son.
Besides, Xavier wouldn't let her go. He might charge her with murder.
Brittany said, "If you don't want to die quickly, do as I say. Make sure no one sees or finds out. Say Daniel was killed by Grace, and it has nothing to do with you."
Taylor immediately understood Brittany's meaning. Yes, Daniel was killed by Grace.
If Daniel died, it would be Grace's responsibility, not hers. Then Grace would be charged with murder. Even if the police didn't pursue it, the Gunter family wouldn't let Grace off easily.
She knew what to do!
When Grace woke up, she smelled a strong odor of disinfectant.
She didn't know where she was or what was happening around her.
She heard someone talking nearby, "We've done our best; there's nothing more we can do. We couldn't save him."
Who?
Who couldn't be saved?
Could it be her child?
Then she heard a familiar voice, Xavier's, "Understood. Don't tell her about this yet."
Don't tell who? Was it her they weren't telling? Why not tell her?
Grace suddenly opened her eyes. She felt intense pain in her body, especially in her abdomen.
Was she still alive? But she had fallen down the stairs. Was her child lost?
"No, please save him."
Her child was already four or five months old, already had a form. She couldn't lose him.
"Grace." Hearing Grace's voice, Xavier, who had been talking to the doctor, immediately came to her side and saw her trying to get out of bed.
Grace's face was covered in tears. "Xavier, save him."
"You heard?" Xavier was stunned, then said, "Grace, the doctors have done their best. He is already..."
Already completely gone, beyond saving.
