Chapter 212 Pleasing Him
Grace and Angela enjoyed their meal at a mall restaurant before Angela rushed off, mentioning something urgent at her studio.
Grace, in no hurry, wandered through the busy mall alone. She noticed the familiar Iris storefront from afar, bustling with people sampling perfumes and loving the products. It filled her with pride and joy.
Excited to show her gratitude, Grace called Lily to announce a 50% off sale on all Iris's products the next day as a thank-you to their loyal customers.
While exploring the clothing section, Grace realized it had been ages since she bought herself something new. A shiny tie clip caught her eye. Just as she picked it up, a sales clerk appeared with a warm smile.
"Miss, you have great taste. This tie clip is pure luxury. Is it for your husband?" the clerk asked cheerfully.
Grace's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly put it down. "No, it's for a friend."
"It's perfect for a friend too."
Grace couldn't stop thinking about Xavier's kindness. Even though he probably had plenty of tie clips, she felt the urge to gift him this one as a token of appreciation. Xavier had been her rock, and she felt a simple gift wasn't enough.
Her mind wandered to a men's watch—a rare limited edition worth sixteen million dollars—that had caught her eye recently. She set multiple alarms and, with some luck, managed to secure it. Grace had planned to give that watch to Xavier as a special gift, but unfortunately, it hadn't arrived yet.
"Please wrap it up," Grace said without checking the price.
"Sure!" The sales clerk happily wrapped it up.
The tie clip cost tens of thousands of dollars. If it were for herself, Grace might have hesitated, as she had to budget carefully.
But for Xavier, whether it was the watch or the tie clip, Grace didn't hesitate for a second.
She planned to visit Xavier at the Bameran villa tonight and give him the gift.
Grace went home first and got a call from the watch brand in the afternoon, saying the watch had been delivered.
What a coincidence; she could give both gifts to Xavier together.
In the afternoon, Patrick sent over the drafted announcement, declaring the breakup of the engagement between the Montgomery family and the Lewis family.
Grace reviewed it, made some minor adjustments, and sent it back to Patrick.
After confirming everything with Patrick, the Montgomery family posted it online.
Grace also posted the announcement on Twitter: "Thank you all for your attention during this time. From today onwards, I have no ties with the Montgomery family. I wish Mr. Ryan Montgomery finds his true love."
As soon as Grace posted on Twitter, it quickly trended. The highly publicized breakup finally had a conclusion.
Many were happy for Grace, as no one wanted to marry someone like Ryan, who was a jerk. Some said Grace was doing it for publicity and that she would regret not marrying into the Montgomery family someday.
Grace didn't care about the online chatter. Seeing the breakup announcement brought her immense joy. The burden of an impending marriage was lifted; the Montgomery family could no longer impose their wishes on her. Freed from those ties, Grace felt a profound sense of relief and unparalleled happiness.
In the evening, Xavier called, and Grace answered cheerfully.
"Why so happy?" Xavier could hear the joy in her voice and couldn't help but smile.
"Of course I'm happy! You might not have seen it online yet. My engagement with Ryan is finally over!" Grace blurted out, eager to share the news.
"Congrats," Xavier said, keeping the mood light. He wanted her happiness to last a bit longer, even though he had reservations about telling her the full truth.
"Thanks!" Grace hadn't mentioned returning the shares to the Montgomery family yet; she planned to tell him in person.
"Where are you? I'll come pick you up."
"I'm at home!"
After hanging up, Grace started getting ready. Since Xavier knew her secret, she didn't need to put on a facade. Plus, heavy makeup was more of a hassle.
Given the breakup, she knew people might gossip if they saw her with Xavier. She washed off her makeup and opted for a more natural look.
Usually, she relied on heavy contouring, but today she decided to embrace a simpler, more genuine appearance.
She picked out a dress and high heels, presenting a different but real version of herself.
When Xavier arrived, Grace grabbed her bag and headed downstairs. In her modest neighborhood, Xavier's luxury car stood out. She quickly spotted it.
As she approached, she noticed Xavier was driving himself.
When Xavier saw her, his eyes widened in surprise. He wasn't expecting Grace to show her true self. This version of her stirred a protective instinct in him.
Grace got in the car and buckled up. "Lucky me, getting a ride from Mr. Xavier Montgomery himself."
"Feeling under the weather today?" Xavier asked.
"No, I'm good now. Thanks for taking care of me yesterday."
Xavier frowned at the "Mr. Montgomery" title but didn't comment.
He drove to a restaurant and had booked a private room, likely considering her recent cold, and ordered light dishes.
"You don't have to accommodate me; I can't eat much," Grace said.
"You're overthinking. I just wanted something light too." With that, Grace couldn't argue.
The dishes arrived quickly, and Grace enjoyed each bite.
Her eyes, like precious gems, glistened as she stole glances at Xavier. Every time their eyes met, she quickly looked away, unsure how to bring up returning the shares.
"Is there something you want to say?" Xavier noticed her hesitation.
Grace offered him some food, trying to ease the tension.
"Try this, and this too!" she said, moving the utensils in front of him.
Xavier didn't refuse and ate what she offered. As he savored each bite, his deep gaze met hers, creating an unspoken connection.
"Being so attentive today, did you do something to wrong me?" Xavier asked gently.
