Chapter 398 Premature Birth
"What's up?" Xavier croaked.
Mason filled him in, "It's Ms. Park. You've been gone a day, and the Park Group's in shambles again. The other shareholders are all over her to give up her shares. It's a mess."
When Xavier was around, nobody dared to pull any stunts.
Xavier rubbed his temples. "Such a minor issue, you handle it."
Even though there was a ton of stuff waiting for him back at Oakworth, Xavier wasn't in any rush to go back.
For him, Skigeth was his sanctuary, a place to escape the noise.
"Got it." Mason hung up. By the time he got to the scene, Stephanie had already handed over her shares and was bawling her eyes out.
Seeing Mason, Stephanie, with her eyes all red, asked, "Mason, why are you here? Where's Xavier?"
"Ms. Park, Mr. Montgomery is super busy," Mason replied.
A sly look flashed in Stephanie’s eyes before she said, "They all ganged up on me. I didn't want to give them the shares, so I transferred them to Aiden. He doesn't really care about the company. He'll give them back to me later."
Aiden Garcia. The shareholder Stephanie had made a deal with. He played the indifferent investor, but he was sharper than he looked. The plan was to temporarily park the shares with him until the pressure subsided.
"Mason, where's Xavier? I haven't seen him these past two days." Stephanie was still hung up on Xavier.
After Joseph's funeral, she'd only seen Xavier a few times.
"I told you, Mr. Montgomery is very busy." With that, Mason went off to handle some other stuff.
Stephanie bit her lip, her eyes full of resentment.
She knew Xavier had gone to Skigeth. She was sure he was there to see Grace again.
To Stephanie, Grace was the biggest hurdle between her and Xavier. Xavier couldn't get over Grace and still cared about her.
Stephanie suspected Grace was still clinging to Xavier, maybe bombarding him with messages and calls, rekindling his feelings. Thinking about this, she decided to go to Skigeth herself. She wanted to show Grace that she was Xavier's girlfriend. Stephanie would flaunt their relationship, making Grace feel helpless. She wanted to see Grace completely heartbroken.
At Skigeth Hospital, Patrick had already gone to treat his wounds and called the company to keep the Coleman family from messing with the Montgomery Group. He had to make some preemptive moves. He'd also had Luca, the hospital director's, family taken hostage, leveraging his silence..
Ryan had also been beaten up pretty badly, his face swollen, anxiously waiting outside the operating room.
Kelly had been taken into surgery, and her condition was unknown.
Ryan was beside himself with worry. This was his only child, and the doctor had hinted it might be a son.
If anything happened to the child, he'd be left without an heir.
He didn't even have time to treat his own injuries; he was more concerned about the child's condition.
He paced up and down, making Wendy dizzy.
"Ryan, can you chill for a sec? Pacing won't help Kelly get better." Wendy's words hit a nerve, and Ryan lost it, slapping Wendy hard across the face, leaving a red, swollen handprint.
Then Ryan snapped, "How dare you speak! Didn't you know she was pregnant? Why'd you hit her?"
"I was just anxious at the time. It's Kelly's own fault." Wendy covered her face, feeling wronged.
"It's your stupidity that caused this mess with the Coleman family. I'm telling you, if anything happens to my son, you're doomed!" Ryan said, fuming.
"Ryan, it was Kelly who targeted me. Why are you just blaming me?" Wendy sobbed.
"Wendy, sometimes I wonder if you're just stupid. Can't you be more accommodating to Kelly? Don't you know she's delicate now? Or do you want to kill my only child so you can inherit the Montgomery family?" Ryan's anger made his words harsh.
Wendy's eyes reddened. "Ryan, how can you say that?"
"I'm telling the truth. Wendy, you know exactly what you're thinking."
Ryan and Wendy's argument got so loud that it caught the attention of the doctors.
The doctors reminded them angrily, "This is a hospital. If you want to argue, can you do it elsewhere? Please keep quiet."
Only then did Ryan calm down, sitting angrily.
After a long time, the operating room light went off, and Ryan rushed forward.
As the door opened, Ryan eagerly asked, "Doctor, how's the baby?"
He didn't even look at his wife, Kelly, only concerned about the baby.
The doctor said, "Both the adult and the child are stable for now. But the baby was premature. He can't breathe on his own and needs to stay in an incubator. His future health depends on his development. Premature babies face a lot of challenges, so be prepared."
"Doctor, please save my son, no matter the cost!" Ryan begged.
"Sir, please calm down. We'll do everything we can." the doctor said.
Ryan went to see the baby immediately, ignoring Kelly, who had barely survived and was still sweating.
The baby wasn't Ryan's, and Kelly knew it might be discovered eventually. If it did, she was finished. It was better to use the distraction to try and conceive another Montgomery family child.
Then, she could secure her position in the Montgomery family with a legitimate child.
Once she was pregnant, the Montgomery family wouldn't dare do anything to her, and she could maintain her status through the child.
Patrick had made many enemies, and Kelly wasn't sure how long the Montgomery family could hold out. She needed to use this time to transfer as much wealth as possible.
Though she was part of the Montgomery family, she didn't have much money, neither did Ryan.
The vast majority of the money was in Patrick's possession, and obtaining it from him would be no easy task.
Kelly stared at the ceiling, her eyes filled with calculation.
She and Patrick were alike, both smart and ruthless in achieving their goals.
No matter how many plans Patrick had, she could still outmaneuver the Montgomery family.
Kelly conceived a new plan. She had to act quickly, securing the Montgomery family's wealth before it collapsed.
In other words, she had to become Patrick's sole heir before he died.
