Chapter 219 When Did Grace Start Hooking Up with Xavier?
Wendy dashed out of the bar, scanning the area. She only saw Grace assisting a man into a car but couldn't make out his face. She ran over. "Grace!"
Grace turned just in time to see Wendy's slap coming. She quickly kicked Wendy's leg.
Wendy ended up on her knees, her hand on the ground, looking pretty embarrassed.
"Wendy? No need to kneel; I'm not your boss," Grace said, eyeing her. She hadn't expected to see Wendy here.
Wendy must not have seen Xavier, Grace thought. If she had, she wouldn't have dared to come over.
People started to notice, and Wendy's face turned red. She got up quickly. "How dare you kick me!"
"I kicked you? Got any proof? Don't blame me if you can't walk straight," Grace shot back.
Wendy was fuming. How dare Grace talk to her like this? She used to be so meek.
"Grace, who was that guy you were with? Cheating on Ryan, are you?"
"Do you live under a rock? Didn't you see the annulment announcement online?" Grace said confidently. "I'm done with Ryan and the Montgomery family. I could date a hundred guys, and it's none of your business."
"You!" Wendy couldn't believe Grace's nerve.
"Grace, did you cheat on Ryan before? You're shameless!" Wendy just wanted to lash out.
After Grace's visit to the Montgomery Manor, Wendy had checked online. The Montgomery family was trending again, with people bashing Ryan and her. She expected Ryan to get flak, but why her? She hadn't done anything wrong!
"Who's more shameless than Ryan?" Grace retorted.
Drunk and angry, Wendy didn't want to argue anymore. She started banging on the car door. "You must be the guy with Grace! Do you even know who she is? She's slept around, doesn't even keep count. My brother dumped her." Wendy's words were fueled by alcohol and spite.
Just then, the car window rolled down. Wendy was shocked to see Xavier inside, instantly sobering up.
"Xavier?" Wendy's eyes widened in disbelief.
Xavier's cold, indifferent look made Wendy's legs weak, almost making her kneel.
Grace was surprised too. Wasn't Xavier drunk? He didn't look it now.
"Is this what you learned from the Montgomery family?" Xavier's voice was icy.
"I... I just..." Wendy realized the weight of her words. Her anger had clouded her judgment, and she knew she had gone too far.
"Xavier, I was just mad. She was messing around behind Ryan's back. My friend saw her hugging another guy," Wendy said, eyeing Xavier cautiously. "Why are you with her?"
Could her friend have seen Grace with Xavier? No way, that couldn't be.
Wendy didn't know Xavier well, but she thought he had good judgment. It baffled her that he'd be interested in Grace, someone even Ryan had dumped.
When did Grace and Xavier get involved? Was it a drunken mistake on Xavier's part?
"Xavier, don't be fooled by Grace. She's a slut."
"Apologize to her," Xavier commanded.
"Xavier! She's not with Ryan anymore; she's an outsider. How can you side with her?" Wendy yelled.
"Last time, apologize."
"I won't apologize. Did I say anything wrong? She is a slut..."
"She doesn't need to apologize," Grace interrupted.
Wendy smirked. "See, she doesn't want an apology. She knows she's guilty..."
Before she could finish, Grace slapped her hard. Wendy clutched her face, stunned that Grace dared to hit her.
Grace had put all her strength into that slap, leaving Wendy's ears ringing.
"You dare hit me?" Wendy's voice wavered with tears.
"I don't need your apology because I wanted to hit you, and I won't apologize either," Grace said calmly, her eyes cold.
Wendy felt like an invisible hand was choking her. Grace's gaze made it hard to breathe.
"Wendy, do you realize how you're acting? Like those TV characters who spread baseless gossip and get angry for no reason," Grace said.
She then added, "You looked so ugly and pathetic just now."
Wendy glanced at the car window, her face blank. She did look pretty ugly.
"And those people over there watching the drama unfold, are they your friends? They just want to see you make a fool of yourself. Wendy, sometimes I don't know whether to pity you or feel sorry for you. You're quite pathetic," Grace continued.
Wendy turned to her friends, who were indeed the socialites from the private room. They looked like they were enjoying the show, and Wendy felt they were all mocking her.
"What are you talking about? Are you badmouthing me?" Wendy rushed at them.
They said nothing and quickly left, the crowd dispersing.
Soon after, Wendy saw a video in the group chat of her kneeling and getting slapped by Grace.
Now the whole socialite circle knew, and Wendy's face burned even more than when Grace slapped her.
Just then, Wendy's phone buzzed. It was Ryan calling.
"Ryan!"
As soon as she answered, Ryan's anxious voice came through. "Wendy? Did you see Grace today? Who was she with? Did you see?"
Wendy paused, taken aback, thinking, 'Had Ryan seen the video? Shouldn't he have asked if I was okay first?'
