Chapter 293 Call her Auntie
Ryan had been hanging on by a thread for two days, just waiting for the day he could check into the resort. He couldn't take it anymore and showed up solo.
Ryan thought, 'Grace and Xavier should still be here, right?'
He couldn't get them out of his head these past couple of days.
He was fuming, thinking if he was going through hell, Grace and Xavier shouldn't be having a good time either. The betrayal was eating him alive, making him feel all kinds of messed up.
Finally, he got to the resort and made a beeline for the small villa. His gut told him Grace and Xavier were holed up there.
But no dice, they were MIA. After poking around, Ryan heard Victor and the gang were in the billiard room.
Ryan rushed over, and from a distance, he spotted the woman who'd been living rent-free in his head for the past two years.
He thought, 'That face, even without makeup, is drop-dead gorgeous. It's gotta be her!'
Ryan's heart did a little flip. She was so stunning that one look could make him fall all over again. But something about her seemed oddly familiar.
Just then, he heard Victor say, "Grace, you win. I give up. I give up!"
The name Grace hit Ryan like a ton of bricks.
Even though Ryan had a hunch, hearing someone else call her that felt like a knife to the heart.
In Ryan's mind, the image of Grace and this beautiful woman overlapped, and no matter how he looked at it, they didn't seem like the same person. But it seemed they were.
Ryan thought about the first time he saw this beautiful woman; Angela was with her. The second time was at the Turner family’s party.
He thought, 'How did I never connect her to Grace? Their faces are just too different.'
So, the last time at the hotel, when Kelly said she saw Grace enter a room with a man, the next day Ryan opened the door to find Xavier and this woman.
At that time, Xavier had played him, tricking him out of the Montgomery Group shares.
He had thought this woman wasn't Grace, but he had been completely duped by Grace and Xavier!
Ryan's hand clenched into a fist. No wonder Xavier had said that after a certain time, it would be too late to confirm anything.
He thought, 'Grace and Xavier are the worst!'
Ryan was livid, realizing he had been played for a fool by Grace all along!
If Grace had shown him her true face from the start, he would never have called off the engagement.
And he had been searching for this beautiful woman for so long, no wonder he couldn't find her. Because she was Grace, always right under his nose!
Grace had known all along but kept quiet. Did she find it funny? Did she think he was a joke?
If he had known earlier that this was Grace, he would never have broken off the engagement, nor would he have flirted with Kelly. Things wouldn't have turned out this way!
Ryan couldn't hold back any longer. He stormed over, shouting, "Grace!"
Grace turned her head and saw Ryan coming at her.
Ryan looked like he was about to blow a gasket, his rage practically radiating off him.
"Ryan? What the hell are you doing here?" Grace was totally caught off guard.
Victor and Isaac were just as shocked. They shot glances at Xavier and Grace.
Xavier's face was stone-cold, but his eyes were like ice.
Ryan barked, "Admit it, you're Grace!"
"I..." Grace suddenly remembered she hadn't put on any makeup today.
Realizing Ryan had figured it out, Grace's heart skipped a beat.
"Ryan, if you got something to say, say it in private. Don't lose your mind here." Grace knew Ryan's temper and figured he'd make a scene.
"Why should I keep it private? Can't they know about the shady crap you've pulled?" Ryan's voice boomed.
Xavier gave a nod. "You guys, clear out."
"Okay." Victor and Isaac bolted.
With Xavier around, they knew nothing would go down.
"Xavier, you guys are way out of line!" Ryan felt like he was gonna explode. "You two stabbed me in the back, and Grace, why'd you lie to me too?"
"I never lied to you," Grace said, ice-cold.
Ryan snapped, "You knew I was looking for you all this time, but you kept quiet. I was head over heels for you, and you knew it. And you two schemed to rip me off. Give me back my shares. Now!"
Ryan lunged, but Xavier stopped him with one hand. "Your stupidity isn't our problem."
"Grace has always been Grace. You didn't love her; you just loved that pretty face. As for the shares, that's on you. Consider it a lesson: don't judge by looks and don't act on impulse."
Ryan yelled, "Who the hell are you to lecture me, Xavier? I can't stand your holier-than-thou attitude. You're just a bastard. You forced your way into the Montgomery family. Think having the last name Montgomery makes you one of them? No matter how much you scheme, the Montgomery Group will never be yours. And Grace, your mom's ashes are still with my dad. You have to marry me; you're my wife!"
Now that he knew Grace was the woman he'd been searching for, he wasn't letting her go.
Even if he had to live in misery, he'd drag Grace down with him, making her suffer too.
Xavier's eyes went ice-cold. Just one look from him sent a chill down Ryan's spine.
Grace noticed Xavier's shift and quickly held him back. "Xavier..."
"I hate the name Montgomery the most." Xavier's eyes were filled with disgust and cold fury.
Xavier hadn't changed his last name because of his mom. Thinking of her made his eyes bloodshot.
Xavier said, "The Montgomery Group still stands not because Patrick's any good, but because I haven't bothered to take it down. You're so shortsighted, it's laughable. But since you think the Montgomery name gives you power, let's see how long you can keep riding that high. And Grace will never marry you, but..."
Xavier pulled Grace into his arms, his gaze possessive. "I don't mind if you think of her as your Aunt."
