Chapter 622 Grace Sees the News
Even though the explosion happened more than ten miles away from Skigeth, the massive sound echoed through the town.
Ahead, a huge plume of black smoke rose into the sky, and the burning cruise ship looked like a giant fireball. Even with the rain pouring down, there was no way to put out the flames.
The cruise ship, now destroyed, was rapidly sinking. The icy wind from the sea cut through Mason's bones, and he still couldn't process the scene before him.
"Mr. Clark, Mr. Clark..." The others called out to Mason in a panic.
"Did the cruise ship explode? But Mr. Montgomery is still on board, and so are our partners!"
For such a large cruise ship to explode like that, it seemed like Jared had prepared a lot of explosives in advance. Otherwise, it wouldn't have blown up so violently.
Besides the people on the cruise ship, many others were approaching in submarines. Who knew if they were affected by the blast?
So many lives at stake, did Jared really not care?
And what about Jared? Did his plane crash? Is he dead?
"Get help, quickly! Contact the police department and mobilize rescue teams from the city and surrounding areas!"
Even though Mason's mind was blank, he immediately started looking for people to save lives.
The sea was different from land. On land, even if the explosion knocked someone out, they might wake up. But in the sea, it's easy to drown. Even if the explosion didn't harm them, they could still drown.
And Xavier's position was right at the center of the explosion.
The last image Mason saw was Xavier still on the cruise ship!
Such danger, Xavier now...
Mason didn't dare to think about it. The accident happened too suddenly, and such a large-scale explosion, even ten lives wouldn't be enough to survive it.
"Rescue! Everyone, come with me to rescue!" Mason called out to the remaining people. Now, regardless of everything, they had to head towards the center of the explosion.
Even if the storm was still raging, he had to go.
Xavier absolutely couldn't be harmed. He must not be harmed.
...
Such a loud noise would definitely attract attention. Soon, the media reported that a cruise ship had exploded at sea.
Thick smoke could be seen, but many people indoors didn't witness it.
Grace and Angela were just about to leave the funeral home. Grace had almost fallen, so Angela stayed with her for a while.
The TV was still broadcasting the news: "Our station reports that a cruise ship explosion occurred in the southwestern waters. The cause of the explosion and the number of victims are unknown."
The footage wasn't clear; it was too far away to see anything.
The closest surveillance to the coast in Skigeth showed a sudden loud noise, the sky lighting up instantly, followed by thick smoke rising, and the burning flames looking like fiery clouds. Even from such a distance, the scene was terrifying.
Angela saw the report and said, "How could a cruise ship explode? It's so dangerous. Why would there still be cruise ships out there? I'll check online."
Saying that, Angela opened her phone.
Grace was stunned when she saw the news. The image reflected in her pupils looked like flames exploding in her eyes.
Her pupils contracted, and the stinging sensation hadn't subsided.
She picked up her phone to call Xavier.
The explosion happened at sea; it shouldn't have anything to do with Xavier, right?
Where had Xavier tracked down? Had he found any clues about Jared?
But as Grace held her phone, she couldn't hold it steady because her hands were trembling too much.
In the past two days, because of Grace's death, her eyes had cried so much that they looked like walnuts. Her tears had dried up, and she couldn't cry anymore. But now, tears were still welling up in her eyes.
Xavier's phone was unreachable, with a cold machine voice telling her the phone was turned off.
She didn't know why Xavier's phone was off. Grace called Mason, but Mason's phone was also busy.
None of the calls went through. Grace told herself that maybe they were just busy, chasing Jared, and it had nothing to do with the explosion, which was so far away.
Angela said, "Grace, look online. People are saying this accident is very suspicious."
Many definitely discussed such a big accident. Now, the Skigeth explosion had quickly become a hot topic.
[I heard someone was searching the whole city today, right? So many people, so many police officers were dispatched.]
[I happened to be at the airport and saw it. I heard there was commotion at the train station and docks. Did something happen? Is it related to the explosion?]
[I heard they were chasing some fugitive at the old docks. Did they catch the fugitive?]
[What about the exploded cruise ship? What's going on? Were there any injuries?]
[Judging by the extent of the explosion, you can tell the power was immense. If anyone was on or around it, they were probably blown to pieces. Luckily, it was far out at sea. If it had been in the city center, you know what that means? Half of Skigeth might have been blown up.]
Angela showed Grace and said, "This is too scary. I hope everyone on the cruise ship is safe."
"Grace, Grace, what's wrong? Why are you spacing out?" Angela asked after seeing Grace motionless.
Grace continued to call Xavier, but his phone was still off. She couldn't reach anyone.
Seeing Grace's expression, Angela said, "Are you worried about Mr. Montgomery? Don't worry, it's so far away. Xavier isn't on the cruise ship. He's probably busy chasing Jared and didn't see your call."
The news continued to report that most of the rescue teams had gone to help, but the specific situation was still unknown.
"Angela, I just don't feel at ease. I want to..."
"Are you thinking of going to find Xavier?"
Grace nodded, "Yes!"
"But it's still raining outside, and Skigeth is so big. Where would you look? The docks just had an explosion, and there must be a lot of people there. I know you're worried, but don't overthink it."
"But I just can't feel at ease. I feel so scared." Grace couldn't describe the feeling, like something important had been lost.
Especially now that she couldn't reach anyone, it made her even more anxious.
"Just the two of us won't be able to find him. I'll contact Scott." Angela said, calling Scott.
Grace didn't know many other people and didn't want to bother them.
But now she was really worried. She thought for a moment and dialed a number, hoping that person could help.
