Chapter 564 Next Month, Shall We Get Our Marriage Certificate?

Xavier's team had infiltrated the place and kept him updated on the situation.

Right now, things were pretty quiet. They had just captured Jane, and Xavier told them to stay put and keep it under wraps.

Grace noticed Xavier on the phone and, without meaning to eavesdrop, walked over to him. Xavier saw her and ended the call.

Grace asked, "How's Jane York? Did you find her?"

"Yeah, we found her."

"How did she go missing? Is it serious?"

"Not really. She might've just run into some trouble," Xavier replied, keeping it vague.

"Is she okay?"

"She's fine. Robert should be here soon too." Xavier reached out and placed his hand on Grace's head. "Don't worry about it. Everything's gonna be alright."

"Okay. Robert is my friend too. If there's anything we can do to help, we should."

Xavier was in a good mood. "Sure, but you gotta promise me you'll only be friends with him."

"What are you talking about? You think I'm close with everyone?"

"It's just that you're so amazing. What if he falls for you too?"

Grace laughed. "Mr. Montgomery, are you that insecure? Or do you not trust me?"

"Of course not."

Grace brought up an old issue. "Didn't you have secrets with Brittany too?"

"There's nothing between us."

"There's nothing between Robert and me either. In fact, there's nothing between me and anyone else."

Xavier pulled Grace closer, resting her head against his chest. "I believe you."

They had come this far together; there was no reason not to trust each other.

"Grace."

"What?" Grace's bright eyes looked up at Xavier.

Xavier's Adam's apple bobbed as he leaned in to kiss her.

Grace wasn't wearing any makeup, but her face was naturally beautiful.

Xavier said, "Next month, let's get our marriage license. I found the perfect day. The weather's supposed to be great."

He had heard that the day before might have some unusual weather, but it didn't matter. It wouldn't affect the next day.

Grace happily agreed. "Sure."

She didn't have any objections, but the thought of getting married made her a bit nervous. It was time to give their baby a proper home. They couldn't wait until the baby was born to realize they weren't married yet.

Xavier held Grace's hand. "It has settled then. No backing out. You're mine."

Grace blinked. "Haven't I always been yours?"

Xavier's heart felt a warm rush. "Yes, always!"

Grace had always been his.

Grace said, "But if you ever mistreat me, I won't hesitate to leave. If you let go, I won't wait for you."

"Xavier, I know you're protecting me, but you have to promise to take care of yourself too. If you ever disappear, I'll remarry and let our child call someone else 'Dad.'"

Knowing Grace was joking, Xavier hugged her. "That day will never come."

Even though he knew it wouldn't happen, Grace couldn't shake a feeling of unease. She hoped it was just her imagination.

Grace remembered Xavier wanted to take her back to Oakworth. "Let's go back to Oakworth."

"Really?" Xavier was surprised Grace brought it up.

"Of course. Didn't you say you wanted to take me back?"

"Alright, I'll start preparing. We'll go as soon as possible."

Even though several days had passed, Xavier's sense of unease hadn't disappeared. It had only grown stronger.

Now that Jane was in Skigeth, it felt like a storm was brewing, with hidden dangers everywhere. Jane's arrival seemed to have shattered the calm before the storm.

News of Robert's imminent arrival in Skigeth quickly reached Jared.

If Robert came, things could get complicated. Robert was Jane's brother, and they were close. Plus, Robert was a formidable character.

Jared weighed his options. If Jane lived and discovered Grace's situation, the conflict between Vesperia and Aetheria wouldn't escalate. It would be easier to let Jane die and avoid the trouble.

Jared immediately gave the order, "Take care of her."

His people received the message and prepared to act.

Xavier's side also got wind of the plan to kill Jane. Xavier ordered, "Stop them and bring Jane back."

Jared's men, armed with knives, moved to stab Jane. Terrified, Jane screamed, "What are you doing? Stop!"

They didn't understand her and had no intention of stopping. As the knife came down, Jane fainted from fear.

Before the knife could reach her, Xavier's people intervened. They hadn't expected Jared's men to act so quickly or that Xavier's people had infiltrated their ranks.

With Xavier's team prepared, they managed to rescue Jane.

Jane was taken to a relatively safe location. As soon as Robert landed, he went to see his sister.

Robert had brought a private doctor, who confirmed Jane was unharmed.

"Thank you so much, Xavier. I don't know how to repay you." Robert didn't know Xavier well, only by reputation.

He knew Xavier's willingness to help was because of Grace.

"No need to thank me, and no need to see Grace."

Robert was silent.

How did he know I wanted to see Grace?

"Do you know who did this? Who took Jane?" Robert asked.

Xavier replied coolly, "That's your problem, not mine. I've protected her, and that's enough."

Robert was silent.

This was exactly the kind of person Xavier was rumored to be. He hadn't believed it at first, but now he saw it was true.

Xavier didn't try to curry favor with them because of their royal status. He spoke directly and to the point.

"Still, thank you. I owe you one."

A favor from Robert was something many people would covet. After all, he was the king's brother and had his own assets.

"Alright, remember that."

Xavier never turned down a favor. You never know when it might come in handy.
