Chapter 179 Plotting Against Grace Again
To others, the Montgomery family's apology seemed sincere, and the compensation they offered was generous, leaving no room for criticism.
Online, some people were defending Ryan, adding to the already chaotic situation.
Grace only glanced at it briefly, not even finishing the Montgomery family's video before shutting off her phone.
She then handled some matters at the company, and it wasn't until the evening that she found out Zach was at a bar with a client.
By the time Grace got wind of it, it was late, and when she arrived, Zach had already departed.
Not seeing Zach, coupled with everything that had happened today, left Grace feeling frustrated. She decided to book a private room at the bar.
Unfortunately, the bar was crowded, and all the private rooms had been reserved in advance.
Even though there were no private rooms available, there were seats where one could have a drink. Grace ordered a substantial amount of alcohol and drank by herself.
She opened a bottle and drank directly. The strong liquor burned down her throat like a burst of flames, making her cough uncontrollably, with tears almost coming out.
After a moment, Grace opened another bottle.
In another private room, Kelly and James sat together.
"Why is Grace so lucky? Even after all this, the Montgomery family still won't call off the engagement," Kelly said, clenching her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her flesh, but she seemed oblivious to the pain.
She had initially believed that by orchestrating a situation involving Ryan, events would unfold in a manner that would make Grace reluctant to proceed with the marriage, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the engagement.
But not only did the Montgomery family refuse to call off the engagement, they even beat up Ryan.
'What kind of enchantress is this Grace?' Kelly pondered silently.
"Calm down. Your strategy is akin to hurting yourself to harm the enemy. The Montgomery family won't break off the engagement because Grace hasn't committed any wrongdoing," James said, smoking a cigarette.
Kelly looked at him, inquiring, "What do you mean by that?"
James replied, "Look at Ryan's attitude. Is he adamant about calling off the engagement?"
Kelly shook her head. Ryan was only angry at first, but when he went to see Grace later, he didn't say much.
And now Ryan was even apologizing to Grace online, admitting his mistakes.
"That's because Grace isn't the one at fault. Do you think Ryan would still want her if she had been defiled by someone else?" James said.
James' words suddenly sparked a realization in Kelly. She had been with Ryan long enough to know him well.
A man like Ryan, proud and arrogant, could play with countless women, but women could never betray him.
If Grace had been intimate with another man and it came to light, Ryan would undoubtedly reject her.
If Ryan was making a fuss about calling off the engagement, there might still be hope.
Kelly could sense that Ryan didn't seem to dislike Grace as much anymore, and this development was unacceptable.
Moreover, if Grace had been with someone else, the Montgomery family would have gone after Grace, not her.
She felt foolish for not considering this possibility earlier.
"I'll make arrangements right now!" Kelly couldn't wait any longer.
She couldn't wait to see the internet flooded with news of Grace's scandal, watching Grace's reputation crumble.
Kelly left the private room, thinking about how to lure Grace out, drug her, and get her to book a room. But as soon as she stepped out, she saw Grace drinking alone.
'Isn't that Grace?' Kelly thought gleefully. It really was effortless.
This bar was an upscale establishment, frequented mostly by wealthy businessmen. Nevertheless, certain individuals, irrespective of their wealth, couldn't alter their inherent nature. This was particularly true for wealthy men, who, even inebriated, would persist in attempting to seduce an attractive woman.
Men who frequented such establishments typically didn't lack female attention; they were drawn to those who were both stunning and well-proportioned. Someone as unremarkable as Grace was relatively safe in this environment. Even if Grace were to become intoxicated, these men, upon seeing her, would likely show no interest. They had encountered a variety of beauties and were not desperate enough to opt for Grace.
Grace drank quietly, undisturbed by anyone.
Kelly promptly rushed back to the private room and briefed James on the situation. Given James' extensive network of contacts and considering Grace's current state of inebriation, the most prudent course of action was to bring her to the private room.
James said, "Leave it to me."
He then made a call, summoning a friend over. Grace drank heavily, and the intoxication hit her hard. She felt her stomach churn but couldn't vomit, feeling extremely uncomfortable. Her head felt like a needle was stirring inside, and she leaned against the sofa, rubbing her temples.
At that moment, a man approached Grace. "Miss, why are you drinking alone? Did something happen? Let me join you for a drink," he offered.
This man was Ronald, one of James' friends. James, fearing Grace might not be interested, had specifically chosen a handsome one.
Grace was indeed unattractive, and Ronald found it hard to make a move. James had only instructed him to take Grace to a hotel room, not to do anything else. Ronald just needed to undress her and ensure the media captured it the next morning. The room was already booked; he just needed to take Grace there.
"Get lost!" Grace didn't even lift her eyes, nor did she look at Ronald.
"Don't be so harsh. It's not good for a woman to be too fierce; no man will like you," Ronald said, picking up a nearby drink. Pretending to pour Grace a drink, he slipped a pill into it. This task had to succeed, so he felt more secure using a little drug.
"If you have any troubles, you can tell me. I'll help you. I've been watching you for a while, seeing you drink so much. I even booked a room for you. Drink this, and then go rest."
Ronald handed the room key and the drink to Grace, but she pushed them away. She was drunk, not stupid. She didn't like being hit on or bothered. Grace stood up, unsteadily heading for the exit.
Ronald quickly followed, supporting her waist. "You can't even walk straight. Let me take you to the hotel next door. Here's the room key."
Grace pushed Ronald away, but he kept clinging to her. Meanwhile, not far off, Kelly observed Ronald leading Grace away, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips. It appeared that fate had aligned in her favor this time; it was Grace who found herself in a predicament.
Ronald tried to grab Grace's waist again, saying, "You may have an ordinary appearance, but your body is surprisingly good."
However, as soon as his hand touched Grace's waist, a strong force pulled him away.
"Who is it?" Ronald turned around angrily, only to meet a pair of deepmenacing eyes. He instantly froze, unable to move, as the taller man's powerful presence sent chills down his spine.
