Chapter 322 Kneel Down and Beg Her, Kelly Still Has a Backup Plan
Sterling's words made the cops sweat bullets.
"Look, I'm the boss, but I had no clue about any of this," Patrick stammered, trying to wiggle out of the mess.
Sterling shot him a cold look. "Seriously? You got the guts to say you didn't know?"
"You..." Patrick was clueless about who this guy was. But seeing his attitude and how he could just shoot someone without a care, Patrick knew he was out of his league.
"What the hell is going on?" Patrick turned to Kelly.
Wasn't Grace's mom's ashes taken by Ryan? How did they end up with Grace?
He planned to use those ashes as leverage. If Grace had them, how could he control her?
Kelly met Patrick's eyes and instantly freaked out.
Patrick had been in the game for years; his stare alone was enough to scare anyone.
Kelly hadn't thought of a plan and just started crying.
"If you can't explain, I will." Grace wasn't about to be nice to someone who wanted her dead. "Her belly..."
"Grace!" Kelly cut her off, looking pale as a ghost.
"What?" Patrick sensed some weird tension between Kelly and Grace.
Kelly said, "I was alone and clueless. I put the ashes there. Dad, you know my parents were manipulated by Grace and stayed at our place. Grace made a deal with me; if I gave her the ashes, she'd get my parents to leave. I did it for our family's sake. When I saw Ryan bring the ashes back, I thought he was giving them to Grace. So I came today to hand them over. As for the guy who wanted to kill Grace, I have no idea who he is."
Grace watched Kelly put on a show. Even with the evidence right there, Kelly was still struggling.
"I believe this will get sorted out, and the cops will give me justice!" Kelly said, then looked at Grace. "Grace, I don't know how things got so messed up. It wasn't what I meant."
Kelly looked at Grace with teary eyes. "Grace, I'm sorry!"
Just then, the cops walked over. "All of you, come with me. We'll take separate statements."
Kelly finally let out a breath. At least Grace hadn't spilled the beans yet, so there was still a chance.
Grace followed a cop into a small room and told the whole story. After she finished and came out, Kelly called out, "Grace!"
Kelly dragged Grace to the restroom and suddenly dropped to her knees. "Grace, I'm begging you. Keep my secret. Don't tell Patrick."
"When you wanted me dead, you didn't think this way, did you? Do you think only dead people can keep secrets?" Grace wasn't about to trust Kelly ever again.
"Grace, I'm serious this time. I'm scared outta my mind. You're way tougher than me. I swear I'll behave from now on, just help me this one last time. Please, Grace. You hate the Montgomery family, right? Wouldn't you love to see Ryan and me tear each other apart?
Isn't that what you want? If I'm gone, the Montgomery family will still be fine, and no one will mess with Ryan. Honestly, I've already had it checked; Ryan can't have kids. This is my last shot. Don't you want to wait until the baby is born and see the Montgomery family's reaction? Grace, I'm begging you; I'll even bow down to you!"
Grace was taken aback. Ryan couldn't have kids? So it was his problem. No wonder Kelly was carrying someone else's baby.
Looking at Kelly like this, Grace felt zero sympathy. Wasn't this all Kelly's doing? Kelly started it, so she shouldn't blame others!
"I won't help you," Grace said.
Kelly wanted her dead. If it weren't for Xavier and Sterling, Grace would be the one in the hospital fighting for her life. Why should she forgive and keep secrets for Kelly?
"You have to help me!" Kelly wiped her tears and dropped the act.
She pulled out a glass bottle and handed it to Grace.
"These are your mom's ashes," Kelly said.
"What?" Grace took it.
If these were Evelyn's ashes, then what was in the box?
"I was scared of getting caught, so I kept a backup. This is only half; the other half is still with me. If you don't believe me, you can test it anytime. Your mom's ashes are with me. If you keep my secret, I'll never come after you again. Once my baby is born, I'll give you the rest. Isn't it better to expose me then? If you hate me so much that you have to expose me now, then fine. You'll never get the rest of your mom's ashes."
Kelly wasn't playing the victim anymore; she was sharp and clear-headed. She usually acted pitiful, making people think she was harmless.
"Kelly!" Grace gripped the bottle tight. "The baby in your belly isn't even a Montgomery. Aren't you scared I'll tell Patrick now?"
"Go ahead, unless you don't want the rest of your mom's ashes." Kelly was using this as her last card.
"Grace, keeping the secret for now won't hurt you. I promise I'll keep my word. There's no real beef between us. You don't want to marry Ryan, and I do. I swear I won't target you anymore. If you need my help, I'll be there. Isn't it better to have one more friend than one more enemy?"
Grace looked down at Kelly on the floor. She pursed her lips, not expecting Kelly to have a plan.
Kelly was smart. If she weren't, how could she have left that small village and entered the top family in Skigeth?
Grace thought for a moment. Not exposing Kelly now might be better.
Grace pulled out her phone and played a recording. "Grace, I'm begging you; keep my secret..."
It was Kelly's words just now!
Grace paused the recording after a bit.
"Kelly, I recorded everything you just said. This is your last chance. If the ashes are fake, the Montgomery family will hear this recording soon."
Grace's aura was strong, and her tone was firm. "I can't wait for you to have a baby for that long; at most, you have six months. You must give me the rest of the ashes!"
