Chapter 210 She Was No Longer Ryan's Fiancée
"Mr. Patrick Montgomery, you mentioned my engagement with Ryan was symbolized by a bracelet. Now that it's annulled, shouldn't you return it?" Grace's tone was firm. It was her mother's, and she was determined to get it back.
Patrick's face changed. "It's been years; I don't even know where it is."
"If you don't return it, how can I trust the engagement is really over?" Grace pressed.
She suggested, "Why not publicly announce the annulment through the media or an official statement from the Montgomery Group? Once that's done, I'll transfer the shares to you."
"No problem, I agree. I'll have someone draft the announcement and make it public that the engagement between you and Ryan is officially annulled," Patrick said quickly.
Grace was surprised by his sudden compliance; it was unlike him.
Wary of his tricks, she added, "I need to review the announcement first."
This was to ensure he didn't blame her and direct all criticism at her.
"Okay," Patrick agreed, looking defeated.
"Dad!" Ryan, still on his knees, panicked. He never wanted to marry Grace, finding her unattractive and difficult. Marrying her was the last thing he wanted.
Grace was always irritating, always at odds with him, seemingly plotting to marry him off.
Over time, Ryan couldn't pinpoint when, but he began to see Grace differently. He found her less disagreeable and started to notice her more.
Ryan had always thought Grace's actions—her dislike for him and her desire to annul the engagement—were just tactics to get his attention.
But in that moment, he realized Grace never had any genuine affection for him. Her talk of breaking off the engagement was sincere. When Patrick agreed to annul it, it felt like a piece of Ryan's heart was missing.
He realized he didn't want to annul the engagement. Or rather, he knew he didn't want to annul it in the first place!
"Dad, maybe we should reconsider. I don't think we need to annul the engagement," Ryan suggested sincerely.
He turned to Grace. "Grace, I know I've wronged you before. I promise after we get married, I won't do it again. I'll break up with Kelly and make her get rid of the baby. Is that okay?"
Grace just looked at Ryan coldly, without any affection. She quickly looked away, not taking his words seriously.
She turned to Patrick. "Mr. Patrick Montgomery, I'll be leaving now. I hope the announcement can be drafted soon."
"And the shares?" Patrick asked.
Grace replied, "As soon as the announcement is made, I'll transfer the shares back."
With that, Grace left the conference room.
"Dad, are Grace and I really going to annul the engagement?" Ryan's eyes were red.
Patrick raised his hand and slapped him again. "It's all your fault, you fool!"
Patrick seethed with anger. As Grace stormed out, he leaned heavily on the conference room table, trying to catch his breath. Ryan's actions had nearly sent him into cardiac arrest.
Ryan shot up. "I'm going to find Grace! This engagement can't be annulled."
He refused to accept Grace's decision to end the engagement just because she wanted to. He was determined not to let her have her way. Whether she disliked or hated him, he wanted her by his side, seeing his face every day.
Ryan dashed to the elevator. "Grace! Wait! I need to talk to you!"
But the doors closed before he could reach them. Frustrated, he jabbed the button for the next elevator, knowing the wait would be agonizing.
He had seen Kelly's true colors and knew how scheming she was. Given Grace's looks, if she annulled the engagement, could she find a better man than him?
Ryan never doubted his own qualities or family background. He was the sole heir to the Montgomery Group, and everything would be his. If Grace missed out on him, he was sure she wouldn't find a better man.
He was giving Grace a chance now. If she didn't appreciate it, she shouldn't blame him for her future hardships!
In the elevator, Grace looked at her reflection in the mirror-like walls, a genuine smile on her face.
Excited to share her news, she reached for her phone. The first person she thought of was Xavier.
The shares were something Xavier had helped her secure. Now that she was using them to annul the engagement, Xavier shouldn't have any objections, right?
Although Grace had initially offered to transfer the shares to Xavier, he had declined. However, if Xavier regretted it, she was willing to work hard to repay him the shares' value through a mutually agreed-upon arrangement.
After some thought, Grace typed a message: [Xavier, you got a minute?]
Feeling it was too casual, she rephrased: [Mr. Montgomery, could I have a moment of your time? I have something important to discuss.]
She sent the message, not expecting an immediate response due to Xavier's busy schedule. But as the elevator doors opened on the first floor, a notification from Xavier appeared on her screen. She opened it to find a succinct reply.
Xavier: [Tonight, the Bameran villa.]
Each word made Grace's mind wander. She and Xavier had never done anything proper at the Bameran villa at night.
Last time at the Bameran villa...
Thinking about it made Grace blush and her heart race. She replied: [Can we change the time and place?]
Xavier: [No.]
Grace thought about it and agreed. With her engagement to Ryan now officially annulled, she felt relieved knowing she wouldn't feel guilty about potential developments with Xavier.
She was no longer Ryan's fiancée. Whatever happened with Xavier from this point on wouldn't carry any guilt.
Every time Xavier called her, whether in casual conversations or intimate moments, it made Grace's heart race. Xavier, aware of her sensitivity to that particular title, would often playfully use it during intimate moments to tease her. Each time he did, Grace's pulse would quicken, her legs tensing up in response, much to Xavier's amusement.
In the future, Xavier wouldn't be able to use that title to tease her anymore!
