Chapter 370 Encountering an Attack

In the evening, Grace couldn't find a chance to call Xavier because Angela was hanging around.

Finally, after Angela left, Grace, feeling both excited and nervous, dialed Xavier's number.

Xavier took a while to pick up, sounding busy.

"Hey, how's your day been? Everything go smooth?" Xavier's voice was still that deep, familiar tone.

"I signed the agreement with Patrick this morning, then met with the Coleman brothers. We did a DNA test, but I'm not related to them," Grace reported, summarizing her day.

"Xavier, there's something else I need to tell you." Grace hesitated, trying to figure out how to bring up the kid.

Just then, she heard another voice on Xavier's end. "Xavier."

Xavier was already at the restaurant entrance, and the guy calling him was Joseph, who had just gotten out of his car.

Joseph walked over and started chatting with Xavier, and all Grace could hear was a muffled conversation.

Grace bit her lip, "Go ahead. Take care of that. We can talk later."

After a few words with Joseph, Xavier got back on the phone, "What was it you wanted to tell me?"

Grace replied, "Nothing urgent. You go ahead, and we'll talk when you have time."

Grace knew if Xavier was busy, dropping the news about the kid would definitely throw him off.

Xavier said, "Alright, I'll wrap things up here and come back early. You should get some rest too."

"Okay." Grace hung up and went to the study. She saw the auction items Xavier had bought for her at Jared's birthday party on the cruise still there.

Before, their relationship was undefined, and she thought Xavier was just trying to win her over like a lover.

But now it felt different. Now, Grace saw these as gifts from Xavier, and she wanted to cherish them!

Xavier and Joseph walked into the restaurant together. Tonight's dinner had been planned for a while. Joseph knew his health was failing and had been spending a lot of time with Xavier lately. It seemed like Joseph wanted to hand over the company's business to Xavier. There was no other choice; only Xavier could be his best successor.

Joseph decided to entrust the company to Xavier.

Otherwise, those with bad intentions in the company might ruin it, and they wouldn't protect Stephanie.

Xavier was a man of loyalty and integrity. By giving the Park Group to Xavier, he could at least ensure Stephanie's lifelong prosperity.

After ordering, they chatted a bit, and Joseph pulled out two documents. These were the core of the Park Group, unknown to other shareholders, and he handed them to Xavier.

"Mr. Park, this isn't right." Xavier didn't open them.

Joseph said, "There's nothing wrong with it. Xavier, you're the person I trust the most. I can only rest easy if the company is in your hands."

He coughed a few times, "I don't know how much longer I have. I know you have your own life now. Stephanie can be…difficult…but I hope you'll be patient with her."

Xavier lowered his eyes, "Joseph, your health is still good. Forgive me, but I can't accept this."

Joseph sighed but didn't push it.

The dinner mainly revolved around work.

Soon, they finished eating and left the restaurant.

Xavier's driver seemed to have an upset stomach and had been running to the restroom frequently, making it inconvenient for him to drive. If he had a stomachache halfway, it wouldn't be good.

Joseph remembered Stephanie suggesting he give Xavier a ride, which seemed quite coincidental.

Joseph said, "Xavier, hop in my car. I still have some things to discuss with you, and I'll give you a ride home."

Xavier quickly replied, "No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Park. I'll call another driver."

Joseph insisted, "It's no trouble at all. Between us, there's no need for such formalities. Come on, get in."

Unable to refuse the kind offer, Xavier got into Joseph's car.

It wasn't too late, and the traffic had thinned out.

In the car, Joseph and Xavier chatted. Suddenly, the driver said, "Mr. Park, it looks like a car is following us."

"What?" Joseph and Xavier looked through the rearview mirror and saw several cars around them.

"Turn at the next corner where there are fewer cars and lose them," Xavier calmly ordered.

Just then, two loud bangs were heard—gunshots.

The next second, the rear window shattered, and the bullet passed through the back window and out the front windshield.

The gunshots came so suddenly; it seemed the attackers were out for blood.

Fortunately, the bullets passed between the three of them, or they might have been hit.

"Speed up!" Xavier's eyes were deep and cold.

The driver obeyed, accelerating quickly. Xavier took out his phone, called Mason, gave their location, and asked Mason to bring help and call the police.

After doing all this, Xavier noticed Joseph's expression. He seemed terrified, his face frozen.

Xavier comforted, "Don't be afraid. We'll be fine. Just duck down a bit to avoid getting hit by bullets."

Xavier was uncertain about the identity of these attackers or their target. For now, their primary objective was to ensure their own safety and await the arrival of reinforcements.

Suddenly, a bullet hit the car's tire, causing it to explode. The sudden impact made it hard for the driver to brake.

He slammed on the brakes, and the car skidded a long way, becoming undrivable.

No one expected this to happen tonight, and Xavier was caught off guard. Xavier cursed himself for being unprepared and hoped the attackers were after him and not Joseph.

In the hail of bullets, they were trapped in the car, with no chance of escape. Xavier instructed the driver to stay quiet.

The other cars surrounded them, and someone got out, approaching with a gun, seemingly to check the situation inside.

Xavier seized the moment. As the attacker reached the car door, he forcefully opened it, knocking the attacker down. Before the attacker could react, Xavier was out of the car, elbowing the attacker's neck, rendering him unconscious.

Xavier grabbed the attacker's gun. The others noticed something was wrong and started shooting at Xavier. Xavier dodged while firing back with the gun he had taken.

Xavier was no stranger to guns. He had faced such situations many times in his teens.

His marksmanship was excellent, almost always hitting his target. His face remained calm; he knew he had to stay composed.

However, with the adversaries outnumbering them, Xavier stood no chance against them.

The attackers seemed intent on killing. With their superior firepower, it was hard for Xavier to dodge.

Joseph watched the chaos outside, his mind unusually clear. He recalled Stephanie suggesting he and Xavier share a car. He seemed to understand who had orchestrated this attack and its purpose.

Joseph saw someone aiming a gun at Xavier from behind.

A tear slid down Joseph's cheek. Stephanie, he thought, 'Stephanie, if this is what you want most in life, then I'll help you.'
