Chapter 237 Attending the Banquet as Xavier's Date

After returning the gift money, Grace felt a lot better.

Even though Evelyn's ashes were still with Patrick, Grace knew showing too much interest could backfire. So, she decided to act indifferent.

Grace kept her promise and told Madison all the dirt she found on Zach. How Madison and Zach would deal with it was none of her concern.

Zach tried calling Grace, but she ignored him. With Madison's quick help, Grace didn't have to lift a finger. Sometimes, even enemies can be useful.

A few days later, around noon, Grace's phone rang. It was Xavier. Why call at such an odd time?

"Got plans for this afternoon and evening?" Xavier asked.

Grace was just working in her studio. "Nope," she said.

"Do me a favor," Xavier said.

Grace didn't even ask what it was. "Sure."

"Aren't you curious what the favor is?"

"Doesn't matter." She was always willing to help Xavier. She owed him a lot and chances to repay him were rare.

"Alright, keep your evening free," Xavier said and hung up.

She wondered, 'What did Xavier want?'

In the afternoon, Xavier showed up at Grace's studio. The place was small compared to his company. Most of the staff were women, and they couldn't stop staring at him.

'So handsome! How can anyone be this handsome?' they all thought.

Lily was the first to speak. "Hi, who are you looking for?"

"Grace."

"Ms. Lewis is busy. I'll take you to her." Lily quickly led Xavier to Grace's office.

Grace was deep in a document, totally focused.

Lily raised her hand to knock, but Xavier stopped her. "I'll go in. You can go back."

Even though Xavier wasn't her boss, Lily instinctively obeyed him.

Grace was so absorbed in her work she didn't notice Xavier approaching. She looked troubled.

"Check clause five," Xavier said, startling her.

She looked up. "Xavier? You..."

"Are you asking why I'm here or when I got here?" Xavier cut her off. "I called you at noon for help. I just arrived and didn't want your assistant to disturb you."

"I'm almost done, but something's off with this clause," Grace said.

"Legally, if you don't fix this, it could cause big problems," Xavier explained.

As he spoke, Grace had an aha moment. His knowledge in finance and law amazed her, showing just how much more he knew.

She thought, 'What couldn't Xavier do? Balancing so many skills was impressive, even for a genius.'

Grace called Lily and asked her to renegotiate the contract clause. It was crucial to prevent the other party from exploiting any loopholes.

"Thanks, Xavier. What do you need my help with?"

"There's a banquet tonight, and I need a date. Will you come with me?" Xavier replied.

A banquet Xavier was attending had to be a big deal.

Grace hesitated. "Am I really the right choice?"

"Of course. I don't know any other women in Skigeth, and you promised to help."

"Who's going to be there?" Grace asked.

Xavier listed some names, and Grace was shocked. These were not just local big shots but also some from Oakworth.

What kind of event could draw such a crowd?

Xavier explained, "It's on a yacht. The host is a mysterious figure with tons of assets. It's rare to meet him. This is a great networking chance for your company."

Many people would kill for an invite to this banquet.

Grace had never been to such a prestigious event before. She worried she might embarrass Xavier, but her desire to attend was overwhelming!

"Okay," she agreed, deciding to prepare well.

Grace rarely left work early but got into Xavier's car.

"The Montgomery family will be there too," Xavier reminded her.

Patrick wouldn't miss such an opportunity. He was a well-known figure in Skigeth, and getting an invite wasn't hard for him.

"Doesn't matter to me," Grace said coldly.

"So, how are you planning to show up?" Xavier asked, crossing his legs elegantly.

"Like this. Will I embarrass you?" Grace pointed to her face.

Except for her eyes, Grace's current look wouldn't draw much attention.

"No," Xavier said. Her appearance was her choice, and he had no right to judge. He didn't think her look was embarrassing.

Everyone has their own value and meaning, regardless of appearance. True worth is in character and contributions.

"Alright, I'll go as I am," Grace said, noting Xavier's lack of displeasure. She had wondered if he was just drawn to her looks, but she realized he wasn't that shallow.

Xavier nodded. "Okay."

Xavier took Grace to a high-end clothing store. "I called ahead. Please have her try on the custom-made dress," he told the manager.

"Okay, Mr. Montgomery."

The manager saw Grace and hesitated. "This..."

'So ugly?' the manager thought.

"What's wrong?" Xavier asked.

The manager was in a tough spot. He was supposed to treat Xavier with utmost respect. He expected Xavier's date to be a beauty, but Grace didn't fit that mold.

Trying to be considerate, the manager said, "Mr. Montgomery, this dress is hard to pull off. It might look ridiculous if not worn well. Would you consider another dress?"
