Chapter 114 As Long As She Likes It
Hearing Jessica mention divorce again, James frowned and hung up.
Just then, the secretary walked in. "Mr. Kelly, Miss Morris is here."
Lately, Rose had been making frequent appearances at the Kelly Corporation, acting like she owned the place, as if she couldn't wait to flaunt her new status to everyone.
James dismissed the secretary. Rose strutted over and sat on his lap.
Worried about Rose's depression, James had been extra gentle with her. However, after the call with Jessica, an inexplicable irritability and depression washed over him. he felt irritated. Even Rose's perfume, which he used to like, now now he felt cloying and unbearable.
Rose noticed his mood and asked, "James, what's wrong? Are you upset because I bought that sapphire necklace today?"
James composed himself and smiled. "What have you ever wanted that I didn't get for you? It's just a necklace."
"James, I need to tell you something, but please don't be mad." Rose looked down, biting her lip like she was really upset.
James asked, "What is it?"
Rose touched the sapphire necklace, her voice barely above a whisper. "I ran into your wife at Golden Plaza. I really liked this necklace, but the clerk said it was reserved. I didn't know it was your wife's favorite, so I called you. If I had known, I wouldn't have competed with her for it."
James was caught off guard by the fact that Rose and Jessica had crossed paths at the mall, and that they both liked the same necklace. Reflecting on his two-year marriage to Jessica, he realized he had never given Jessica any jewelry. The guilt weighed heavily on him, knowing that today, Jessica had finally found a necklace she loved, only for Rose to end up with it instead.
Rose, unaware of the turmoil in James's mind, continued, "I offered to give the necklace to your wife, but she refused and seemed angry, buying a lot of jewelry all at once. I know the Kelly family is wealthy, but I can't help but feel bad for you. How can you let your hard-earned money be spent like that?"
James blurted out, "As long as she likes it."
Rose stiffened, hiding her anger. Ultimately, she forced a smile. "Yes, she is your wife. It's only right for her to spend your money."
As she spoke, she took off the necklace, choking up, "I don't dare to wear this anymore. As a woman without a title, how could I deserve this?"
Observing her behavior, James thought she was having another depressive episode. He reassured her, "Rose, I don't like it when you belittle yourself. I've promised you I'll explain everything in the future."
Rose started crying. "But your wife humiliated me today. I can't take it anymore. What did I do wrong? I just love you!"
James held her, comforting, "Rose, I contacted a renowned foreign psychology expert. He has extensive experience with depression. This weekend, I'll take you to see him, okay?"
Rose's constant self-pity and crying made him anxious. No one wanted to be surrounded by such negative emotions all the time. James was nearly at his breaking point, using every ounce of his patience to comfort her and help her fight depression.
