Chapter 353 Move Over; Don't Get So Close to Me (3)
Kylie stopped and asked, "Hey, are you in the department? I'll come to find you. I heard the director talking about it this morning, and I'm freaking out."
Jessica sighed, "Nope, not in the department. The head told me to take a couple of days off to dodge the drama."
Kylie paused again, sounding sympathetic, "Alright, let's catch up at noon. I gotta do rounds with the doc now."
After hanging up, Jessica felt super down.
The OB-GYN and Surgery departments weren't even in the same building and were pretty far apart, yet even Kylie knew about it. That meant the whole hospital was buzzing.
Plus, the department heads were using Jessica as the poster child for what not to do.
At noon, after feeding Gerald lunch, Jessica headed to the hospital cafeteria.
Kylie had already grabbed her food and said, "Wanna eat somewhere else? If so, we can go to my dorm."
She quickly pulled Jessica away.
"What's up?" Jessica noticed something was off. She found a seat and said, "Your dorm's too far, and there are plenty of seats here."
Kylie hesitated but eventually sat down with her.
There were a lot of whispers around them.
Jessica was new, so not many people knew her, but the gossip had spread like wildfire.
"Did you hear about the Cardiac Surgery mess?"
"Yeah, you mean the intern who went rogue and ended up killing the patient?"
"Exactly. Man, that intern's got guts. These kids today don't know their limits! Now look, they've made a huge mess. Bet they won't even keep their student status!"
Jessica listened, gripping her knife and fork tightly.
Kylie sighed, "Told you we should've eaten in my dorm. But no, you wanted to eat here."
Jessica forced a smile, "It's fine. I believe Professor Howard will clear my name soon."
Kylie looked puzzled, "Professor Howard? He's involved too?"
Jessica explained, "The patient was under our team, and Professor Howard is our team leader and the head of Cardiac Surgery. He'll handle it."
"So, what really happened? I can't believe you'd do something so dumb! If there was an issue, you'd have reported it to a senior doc, right?" Kylie was dying to know the whole story.
Jessica didn't hold back and told her about that night and how Cynthia tried to frame her.
Kylie listened, shocked, feeling a sense of shared misfortune.
They were just starting their clinical rotations, as the lowest rung in the hospital. Being blamed for such a big screw-up by a senior doc was a huge hit to their passion and dedication.
Kylie said, "I knew you weren't like what they said."
Jessica held back her frustration, smiled, and said, "Thanks for believing in me."
"But it's not enough that just I believe you. This is huge!" Kylie said seriously. "This morning, our director said if it was the intern's fault, they'd face serious consequences. So, what did Professor Howard say? Can he protect you?"
