Chapter 318 Resolving the Misunderstanding (2)

"You said you helped, but my dad's still locked up, no news, and I haven't even seen him. And you? You lied to me and spent all your time with Rose, taking care of her like she was the only one that mattered!" Jessica snapped.

Her words were a mix of truth and exaggeration.

On one hand, she wanted James to hate her enough to leave; on the other, she was genuinely jealous of Rose.

James sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "I regret ever helping your dad. From now on, don't come to me about his problems. I don't care anymore!"

With that, he stormed upstairs.

Jessica sniffled and went back to her tiny storage room.

She sat on the bed, finally letting her guard down.

She knew about the efforts he made behind her back. He kept it from her to avoid making her more anxious and upset.

But she had to do this to make him disappointed in her.

She buried her head in her knees, whispering apologies. "I'm sorry, James. I'm so sorry..."

Her heart was in chaos.

She loved him so much, yet she had to push him towards someone else.

She hadn't left even a trace of a good impression on him.

She tilted her head back, trying to hold back her tears.

Maybe when James thought of her after a long time, all that would be left was hatred.

The thought made her heart ache like it was being cut by a knife. She bit her knuckles hard to stop herself from crying out loud.

The next morning, James came downstairs with a stern face.

He was the only one at the dining table, looking lonely.

Even though he was still mad at Jessica, he felt bad thinking she was eating instant noodles every day.

So, he pretended to be nonchalant and said to Olivia, "Go call her out! Tell her Pearl is gone, and not to push her luck!"

"Uh, okay," Olivia reluctantly agreed, thinking about how to soften his words before telling Jessica.

After all, no one would feel good hearing that.

After a while, Olivia came back and said, "Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Kelly doesn't seem to be in her room. She must have gone to work."

James frowned and asked, "Isn't today the weekend?"

Olivia thought for a moment and said, "Maybe she's on duty."

"When she comes back tonight, ask her what she's been doing going out early and coming back late every day," James said, putting down his breakfast, a trace of embarrassment crossing his face. He added, "Don't say I asked."

Olivia watched his back and couldn't help but laugh.

She thought, 'If you care, just admit it! Why act all aloof and cold?'

Jessica's first day at the café went pretty well. She picked things up quickly, and the boss liked her a lot.

At the end of the day, she got $20 in wages.

Kylie asked with a smile, "How was it? Working like eight hours a day isn't as easy as being Miss Evans at home, right?"

"Yeah, it's not easy, but it's fulfilling," Jessica replied.

She looked at the money in her account, smiled, and said, "At least, I earned it myself."

Kylie sighed and comforted her, "Don't stress so much about money. Despite what happened between you and James, you're still married, right? That means half of his money is yours. Why not spend it?"
