Chapter 293 A Fleeting Moment of Warmth

Jessica looked at him, all puzzled, and asked, "Aren't you mad? I totally pissed you off last night!"

James paused, then let out a chuckle. "Oh, I'm definitely mad! But you're my wife. No matter how much you tick me off, I can't just ditch you."

His words hit Jessica right in the feels, like a sharp sting in her heart.

She dropped her gaze, trying to hide the guilt and hesitation in her eyes.

James gave her a serious look and said, "But I've been thinking. Yeah, I'm older than you, and I've done stuff that hurt you. It's on me for making you feel crappy. If you think I'm not cool enough, I'll switch it up. If you dig bikes or scooters, I'll pick you up on one from now on."

His words made Jessica's heart race, and she felt tears coming on.

James was always the bossy, self-centered type. But now, he was going out of his way to be the type of guy she wanted.

Why was he putting up with her after all the nasty things she said yesterday?

If this kept up, she'd end up softening and not wanting to leave.

"Alright, hop on. Let's head home," James said, patting the bike seat.

In the end, Jessica couldn't resist his gentle side and sat sideways on the bike.

James grinned and got on too, saying, "Hold on tight."

Jessica hesitated, then slowly wrapped her arms around his waist.

For the first time, she really felt his sincerity, and it hit her hard.

James rode the bike fast, the wind whipping around them with a chill.

Jessica instinctively leaned her head against his back, a small, happy smile creeping onto her face.

But that smile quickly turned bitter.

She knew that no matter how sweet James was to her and no matter how much she wanted to stay, their time together was running out.

Feeling her grip tighten around his waist, James glanced at her slender arms and asked, "You cold?"

"No," she replied softly.

How could she be cold with him around?

But she still had to push him away.

She leaned against him, wanting to savor this moment one last time.

If they really had to part, she'd remember this warmth.

The ride from the hospital to home was long; James pedaled for over forty minutes.

But to them, that warm, peaceful moment felt way too short.

When they got home, Olivia was in the yard, tidying up the flowers and plants.

Seeing them, she was stunned.

She asked in surprise, "Mr. Kelly, did you really ride the bike to bring Mrs. Kelly back?"

James smiled, which was a silent yes.

Olivia chuckled and said, "Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Kelly is really sweet to you."

Jessica felt a mix of sweetness and bitterness in her heart.

James looked at her and said softly, "If you like, I can pick you up on the bike everyday."

Suddenly, Rose's face and her words flashed through Jessica's mind.

She couldn't get lost in James' kindness anymore, or John would be in real trouble.

Her mind cleared instantly, and she coldly said, "No need. I don't like it!"
