Chapter 124 I'll Help Protect Them
George looked at Jack and sighed. "You did this to yourself! Serves you right!"
Jack's eyes filled with despair. 'Did Grandpa really convince my parents to agree to my marriage with Pearl?' he thought.
Linda didn't blame Jack but glared at Pearl. "Don't count your chikens! Even if you do get married to Jack, let's see how long you can hold on to this position!"
Pearl shrugged. "That's none of your business! It is up to my own abilities how long I can hold it!"
Pearl had always been reckless and didn't care about Linda, even though she was her future mother-in-law.
Linda was almost faint with anger.
Soon, Gerald, supported by the butler, arrived at the dining room.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was particularly odd. Except for Gerald and Pearl, who exchanged a few words, everyone else was lost in thought and silent.
Gerald spoke firmly, "Miss Evans, since you're carrying Jack's child, our Kelly family won't shirk responsibility! In a few days, have your parents come over, and we'll discuss your marriage with Jack!"
Pearl was so excited she could barely speak. "Mr. Kelly, thank you. My parents are available anytime."
Gerald added sternly, "But let me be blunt and honest, we'll conduct a paternity test as soon as the child is born. If the child isn't Jack's, there will be serious consequences, even for the Evans family."
Gerald's words made even Jessica nervous.
Gerald had always been kind to her, but she saw a sharp hostility in his eyes just now.
She wanted to say this was Pearl's business and that her father, John, wouldn't know if it was cheating.
Jessica was about to speak when James held her hand.
James signaled her to stay silent.
The entire meal revolved around Jack and Pearl's marriage.
Jack, the person involved, didn't say a single word from the beginning to the end.
After the meal, James and Jessica left the old house.
Jessica immediately asked, "Why did you stop me during the meal? I don't know if the child in Pearl's belly is Jack's. If it's not, my dad will be implicated!"
James's eyes flashed with cunning. "The chance of it not being his is small. Didn't you see how confident Pearl was? If it wasn't his, she'd know a paternity test can't be faked."
Jessica still couldn't relax. Pearl and Joan were both cunning; who knew what they were up to?
Seeing her worried expression, James said, "If it comes to that, I'll help protect the Evans family and your father."
His gaze was distant but determined.
Jessica was slightly surprised, not expecting him to make such a promise.
His words finally calmed her anxious heart.
She looked up at him, confirming, "Really? Are you not lying to me?"
James replied, "Yeah. If the Evans family and John are important to you, I'll help protect them!"
