Chapter 198 Cutting Ties with Rose (2)

Rose stood there awkwardly, pretending to be hurt. "Are you blaming me? James, I just missed you. Every time you leave, I feel like my illness will relapse, and I start overthinking."

"Enough!" James snapped, eyes bloodshot. "How long are you going to keep pretending?"

Rose felt weak and dizzy with panic. "What do you mean? We just saw Dr. Willie before. Didn't Dr. Willie say I have severe depression and can't handle stress?"

James sneered, "You acted so well you almost fooled Dr. Willie! But you can't fool medical instruments."

Rose's face went pale as dread settled in. James stepped closer, grabbing her chin. "Do I need to show you your brainwave test results before you'll admit it?"

Rose realized the brainwave test Willie had her do wasn't for treatment but to see if she was faking.

Her mind raced. Without James's trust, she had nothing left.

James's eyes were sharp, and Rose couldn't meet his gaze. "James, please listen. I know I shouldn't have done this! I was scared you'd leave me. I devoted myself to you. I just wanted to be with you."

"Rose!" he interrupted coldly, disappointed. "How did you become like this?"

Rose's voice trembled. "Please, give me another chance. I don't need a divorce. I'll follow you quietly. Just let me stay with you."

"No need, Rose." James's face was stern. "I can't tolerate such deceit. We should part ways and not see each other again."

Rose was in disbelief. "What did you say? After all these years, you're just going to throw it all away? I've given you everything. How can you do this to me?"

Suppressing guilt and pity, James said firmly, "You've changed. You're no longer the Rose I knew. I'll compensate you. Just name your price."

Rose laughed bitterly. "Compensation? Did I stay with you for your money? Is that what you think of me?"

James rubbed his temples in frustration. "I'll have Sean bring you a check tomorrow. The money will be enough for you to live comfortably. Let's part on good terms." His voice was cold.

Rose knew she couldn't win him back. She smiled through her tears. "James, you don't need to give me anything. Since you've decided, I won't bother you anymore. It's my fault for deceiving you. You don't owe me anything. Being with you was my choice. Goodbye."
