Chapter 203 Telling Him the Truth About That Night
He recapped the day. "After I won the necklace at the auction, I had Sean engrave your name on the diamond. I didn't know your birthday, but it was always meant for you. She happened to see it first. She was struggling with depression. I thought she was too fragile to handle any shocks, so I let her wear it without telling her the truth."
Jessica's emotional walls finally crumbled. Sunlight seemed to flood in, warm and bright.
She smiled gently. "I believe you. Even without the necklace, your words make me happy." She still loved him, so it was easy to be moved.
James looked like a sad lion. Seeing his pride, she understood his despair even more. Jessica felt hurt and heartache. She didn't want him to suffer alone.
She softly said, "Since you shared your secret, I'll be honest too."
"What?" James asked, curious.
Jessica took a deep breath, sitting on the bed and hugging her knees. "You've always wanted to know who that man was. I'll tell you today."
James stayed silent, his eyes intense and focused on her. He clearly cared deeply.
That night was terrifying for Jessica, but she knew some scars had to be revealed. She had to cut away the rotten flesh herself, no matter how painful.
"It was Joan and Pearl..." Jessica's voice was hoarse as she revealed how they plotted against her, drugged her, and sent her to someone else's bed.
James's gaze shifted from confusion to shock, then to deep gloom.
By the end, Jessica's face was covered in tears. "So James, please don't ask me anymore. I don't know who that man was. I really don't know!"
James suddenly stood up, wanting Sean to investigate. He was ready to dig up surveillance footage or anything to find the man who violated Jessica.
But Jessica said hopelessly, "It's useless. I went there the next day, and the surveillance was down all night. The registration info was likely tampered with. I suspect Joan and Pearl did it."
James's breathing was erratic, his face flushed with anger and frustration. "Then call Pearl and Joan here, and that Henry Garcia, and even the owner of the Skyline Club! I will make sure they spill the truth, one way or another!"
"But I don't want anyone else to know." Jessica cried in despair. "If you have Sean look into it, he'll know that I was..." Her voice trailed off, choked by painful memories.
James, heartbroken, held her tightly, pressing her head against his chest. "I'm sorry, Jessica. If I had been with you on your grandmother's birthday, none of this would have happened. It's my fault. It's all my fault."
Jessica finally heard an apology. She broke down in his arms, hitting him desperately.
James thought for a long time. He looked at her tear-streaked face, his eyes cold and determined. "I won't let anyone interfere. Jessica, I'll investigate this myself. Anyone involved will pay the price!"
