Chapter 185 He Agreed to the Divorce (2)
She was daydreaming, thinking James had planned a birthday surprise for her. Jessica walked past Rose, not wanting to engage.
But Rose called out, "Miss Evans, this might be our last meeting. James asked me to meet you specifically. You wouldn't ignore his request, would you?"
Jessica paused at the mention of James, her heart trembling. She glared at Rose and snapped, "If you have something to say, say it quickly."
Rose chuckled sarcastically. "You look worn out. There's a coffee shop across the street. Let's talk there?"
Jessica's reply was icy. "What are you up to now? If you have something to say, say it here. I don't have time to go anywhere with you."
Rose smirked. "You're really cautious around me! Then take a look at this."
It wasn't the divorce that scared her. It was James's sudden change. Yesterday, he refused to consider it, and now, Rose brought the signed agreement.
Was this his way of breaking her heart?
He knew how much she despised Rose. He knew the pain Rose had caused her. He knew everything but still did it.
Rose smiled venomously. "You wouldn't still want to cling on, would you? James asked me to get your signature because he's afraid you'll keep bothering him. He's already signed it. Only your signature remains. The property division is generous. What else are you dissatisfied with?"
Every word felt like a slap. Staring at James's signature was like a knife in her heart. Holding onto her last bit of dignity, she took out a pen and signed her name.
"Hope we never meet again."
Jessica spat the words out, turned on her heel, and let the tears fall freely as she walked away.
She felt foolish, even hiring a lawyer when James could end the marriage anytime. He didn't refuse to divorce because he couldn't bear it; he just hated being in a passive position. Even ending their marriage, he made sure she was the one left broken.
After getting Jessica's signature, Rose drove to Kelly Corporation, barely containing her excitement.
Rose said gently, "James, Miss Evans signed it. She also asked me to thank you for giving her freedom."
James's heart skipped a beat. "Did she say anything else?"
Rose, stirring the pot, replied, "No, that's all. Oh, she seemed quite happy with the property and stocks you gave her. She signed immediately."
A trace of self-mockery and regret rose in James's heart. 'Jessica, well done!' he thought.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, not wanting Rose to see his irritation. "Rose, I have work to handle. Sean will take you home." He called Sean in before she could respond.
Rose knew James probably had feelings for Jessica. Her words had hurt his pride, making him hate Jessica more. He asked her to leave to prevent his anger from affecting her.
After Rose left, James leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes. He saw Jessica's every smile and frown, her occasional arrogance, and her moments of innocence.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Jessica! He answered immediately.
"I just signed the papers. When are we going to the city hall?" Jessica's voice was calm, hiding her recent tears.
James gripped the phone tightly. After a long pause, he suppressed his anger and said, "I have to go abroad for a couple of days. We'll handle it when I get back."
Jessica's heart sank, but she responded gracefully, "Alright, then let's do it on Friday, and get it done this week."
