Chapter 176 He Found Out It Was Her Birthday That Day (2)

James felt regret and heartache as he thought about how badly he treated Jessica last night. No wonder she begged Michael for a divorce.

Turning to Olivia, he said softly, "Starting today, your salary is tripled. I will offer you more rewards if you take good care of her."

Olivia was shocked. She expected a reprimand or to be fired, but instead, she got a raise. "Thank you, Mr. Kelly. I'll do my best," she enunciated.

Without another word, James freshened up and drove to Stewart Manor.

When Adam saw James, the young master of the most prestigious family in Ocean City and head of the Kelly Corporation, he couldn't believe his eyes. The Kelly family never looked up to him; it should be him visiting them.

Flustered, Adam stammered, "Mr. Kelly, it's an honor. Tea or coffee? I'll grind fresh coffee. No, maybe tea. I have some good tea, but I don't know if you'll like it."

James, seeing Adam's fumbling, realized why Lily was so clueless—it ran in the family. "No need. I'm here to pick up my wife," he said coldly.

Adam was shocked. "What? Wife?"

When did James get married? If he did, the whole of Ocean City would know about it. Could Lily have gotten close to James?

Adam cautiously asked, "Are you looking for Lily?"

James frowned. "My wife is Jessica."

Adam's eyes widened. "Please wait. I didn't know Lily brought Jessica back last night. I'll get them."

James sat on the sofa, thinking about how to coax Jessica.

Adam returned with Lily, not Jessica. "Mr. Kelly, Jessica refuses to come out," he said. Then, turning to Lily, he demanded, "Explain to Mr. Kelly what happened."

Lily snapped, "He knows very well! Do I need to say it?"

Adam, nervous, whispered to Lily, "Lily, what are you and Jessica doing? Our family is at risk! Remember, that's James. He could ruin us with a flick of his finger!"

While they argued, Jessica came downstairs. Lily had tried to stop her, fearing James's anger.

Seeing Jessica, Lily said, "Jessica, stay in the room. I can handle this."

Jessica smiled reassuringly. "It's okay, Lily. I'll just talk to him."

With cold determination, Jessica approached James. "Let's talk in the yard," she said.

They walked out, tension in the air. In the yard, Jessica turned to him, her voice heavy with exhaustion and sorrow. "James, please let me go. Our marriage was a mistake. I admit it," she sobbed.

James stepped closer, regret in his eyes. He gently turned her around. "I'm sorry, Jessica. I didn’t know it was your birthday that day," he murmured, his voice thick with guilt.
