Chapter 218 You're Still Hung Up on It, Aren't You?

James: [Alright, wait for me after school.]

After sending the message, James quickly asked Sean to find a good grilled fish restaurant. Then, with unusual urgency, he headed to the flower shop.

In the two years he'd been married to Jessica, he realized he'd never given her flowers.

"Mr. Kelly, are you leaving work now?" Sean asked, surprised. It was just past five, and James was usually still buried in work. There were still many documents needing his signature for tomorrow!

James shot him a cold glance. "Do I need your permission to leave?"

"N-no, of course not," Sean stammered, awkwardly gesturing for James to go ahead. "Feel free, sir."

Without another word, James went to the flower shop. He finally chose a delicate arrangement of white roses, wrapped in a classy plaid fabric.

When Jessica walked out of the school gate, she was stunned. James, standing by his luxury car in a tailored suit, holding a large bouquet of roses, drew envious glances from students and teachers.

Jessica hesitated, unsure what to make of this unexpected display. If she accepted the flowers too eagerly and people found out about their relationship, would he be upset?

While she stood there, lost in thought, James walked over with purpose. He held out the flowers and smiled gently. "Miss Evans, stop daydreaming, get in the car."

Under the envious gazes of many onlookers, James led Jessica to the car. Her heart raced with excitement and a touch of vanity.

She smelled the roses, her face beaming. "They smell wonderful."

James leaned over to fasten her seatbelt and kissed her. He whispered, "No matter how fragrant, they can't compare to you."

"You're such a sweet talker." Jessica glared at him playfully, but she was happy.

James drove to the grilled fish restaurant. On the way, he casually turned on the radio. The first thing that came up was news about Henry being blacklisted. James frowned and immediately turned it off.

Jessica noticed something was wrong and cautiously observed his expression. She asked softly, "Did you do it?"

"Yes," James responded heavily.

Jessica looked at the flowers in her hand. She should have been happy, but that news was like a ticking time bomb. Every time it came up, it hurt. She bit her lip and murmured, "You're still hung up on it, aren't you?"

If he cared so much, he shouldn't be so good to her. If one day he couldn't bear it anymore, she'd be even more embarrassed.

James gripped the steering wheel tightly, his lips pressed into a straight line, silent.

Jessica asked, somewhat helplessly, "Did you look into it? I want to know who that person was. Was it Henry? Or someone else?"

"Jessica!" James interrupted sternly, "The incident's already happened, so there's no use stressing about who was involved. Yeah, I looked into it, and I held everyone accountable. From now on, let's just drop it and act like it never happened, alright?"

He didn't want her to dwell on the person who humiliated her. Even if she knew it was Henry, what good would it do? It would only make her feel worse.

Jessica's heart trembled slightly. From James's tone, she could tell how much he cared about this matter.
