Chapter 242 Make Her Abort the Child (2)
Rose quickly figured out Jessica must've complained to James. She looked at him with wide, innocent eyes and said, "Did your wife say that? I didn't even know she worked at the hospital. How could I have gone to find her? I only found out she was there when I went for a check-up today. She found out I was pregnant and kept asking if the baby was yours."
James' face stayed hard. "There are so many hospitals in Ocean City, but you just had to go to the one where Jessica works?"
"You're really wronging me!" Rose burst into tears, acting like she'd been deeply wronged. "I know, ever since I faked being sick to trick you last time, you haven't trusted me. But how could I joke about my child?"
At the mention of the child, a flicker of coldness and guilt crossed James' eyes. He took a deep breath, his voice turning even colder. "This child, get an abortion. I can't accept it."
For the first time, he plainly demanded she abort the child.
Rose was stunned, almost unable to stand. Her eyes widened in shock. "Is this your wife's idea? She can't accept this child!"
"It has nothing to do with her. It's me." He replied, his tone icy. "I'm the one who got you pregnant. I'm the one who owes you. You can blame it all on me. If you want compensation, say it. I won't haggle."
Rose cried harder, throwing herself into his arms. "Do you know? Your words hurt more than a knife to my heart! If I really wanted something from you, why would I stay with you for so many years without any status? James, you're so heartless! You're really heartless!"
James gently pushed her away, staying calm. "Let's just say it's my fault. I betrayed our relationship. I fell in love with Jessica. If this can make you hate me and give up, so be it."
"But you're the father of my child. I can't hate you." Rose sobbed, nearly fainting from her emotional outpouring, her hands caressing her belly. "He's almost three months old. He's growing every day."
Despite his determination, he couldn't shake off the guilt completely since he had wronged Rose initially. And the innocent life growing inside her was also his child. For a moment, the weight of the situation pressed on him, threatening to crack his stoic exterior. But he knew he had to stand firm. He didn't want to lose Jessica or their home.
Rose sobbed uncontrollably, her voice trembling as she clung to a shred of hope. "How about this? I'll beg her. I'll kneel in front of her and repent. I'll tell her that as long as she can accept this child, I will never disturb your life. I'll be the woman behind you for the rest of my life." With that, she turned to leave, desperate to find a solution.
But James immediately grabbed her arm, pulling her back with a firm grip. His eyes blazed with anger, and he growled, "Rose, calm down!"
"How do you expect me to calm down?" Rose screamed, her voice echoing her deep-seated despair. "We were in love first. I had your child first. Why should our child be the one to suffer? James, you and Jessica, you're both so unfair!"
Her words cut through the air, but James had already made up his mind. He knew that, at this moment, he couldn't afford to be indecisive. He had to resolve this quickly, for everyone's sake.
'If my relationship with you is a mistake, then it should end here,' he thought, his heart heavy with the weight of his decision.
