Chapter 314 The New Love and the Old Flame Are About to Clash! (2)
He didn't want her to hate him or despise him even more.
The next day was the weekend, and Jessica had plans to start a part-time job at the café with Kylie.
On the way, Kylie filled her in, "One of the girls at the café is leaving tomorrow, and the boss needs someone. I recommended you. It's twenty bucks a day, which isn't bad."
Jessica quickly thanked her.
Sure, twenty dollars might not have bought her a T-shirt before, but now she needed to be independent. She couldn't spend the Evans family's money anymore, and she definitely couldn't touch James's money.
So, she was determined to make this job work.
The café owner was a kind woman in her forties.
She was pleased with Jessica and showed her some basic drink-making techniques.
Around noon, she smiled and said, "Jessica, you pick things up fast. If everything's good, you can start at 9 AM tomorrow. We pay daily. Our café is busiest on weekends, so we need some students to work part-time. If you have time during the week, you can come too."
"Thank you, Madam," Jessica replied.
She was thrilled; this was her first job ever.
Seeing her reaction, Kylie remarked, "I really envy you! I work because I have no choice; life forces me. But you're so happy, like a rich girl on an adventure."
Jessica didn't know how to comfort her and said quietly, "I'm just like you now. I can only rely on myself."
Kylie laughed and said, "Alright, I'm just complaining. Come on. I'll treat you to lunch to celebrate you getting a job."
They went to a nearby restaurant.
Kylie had to go to the hospital for her shift in the afternoon, so Jessica went home alone.
As soon as she walked in, Pearl slowly approached and blocked her way.
Jessica said coldly, "Move."
Pearl smiled mockingly. "You're almost done with your time as Mrs. Kelly. Why are you still so arrogant?"
"That's none of your business," Jessica shot back, brushing past her.
Pearl's voice came from behind, "Do you know where James went? That woman just whined a little, complaining about not feeling well here and there, and James immediately got so worried that he rushed her to the hospital!"
Although Jessica knew Rose was in the hospital and James would be in contact with her, hearing it still stung.
She suddenly thought of something.
Pearl looked at her bright, slender nails and said smugly, "This house will soon have a new mistress! When the new mistress comes, my position won't change, but you..."
How could the new mistress tolerate Jessica?
Jessica ignored her, not wanting to waste words.
Pearl had just mentioned that Rose seemed to be feeling unwell.
After all, Rose was seriously injured because of John.
Jessica was worried and decided to go to the hospital to check.
She turned and left the house.
Pearl watched her hurry off and smirked, "There's going to be a good show! The new love and the old flame are about to clash!"
