Chapter 550 Left Her at This Time (4)

Jessica couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in her heart.

Finally, she got out of bed, threw on a jacket, and decided to head to Kelly Corporation to find him.

Even if they didn't get their marriage certificate, just being near him and watching him work would calm her down.

Jessica couldn't help but mock herself a little; she was becoming more and more dependent on James.

She didn't want to be apart from him for even a minute.

With that thought, she hailed a cab and headed to Kelly Corporation.

Most of the executives and the president's office staff at Kelly Corporation knew Jessica, but the receptionists didn't have the same opportunity to recognize her.

So, the receptionist politely asked, "Miss, who are you here to see?"

Jessica confidently introduced herself, "I'm here to see James. I'm his wife."

The receptionist immediately became enthusiastic, "Oh, Mrs. Kelly! But Mr. Kelly isn't in the office today. How about I take you to the lounge to wait for him?"

Jessica was taken aback, "He didn't come to the office? Not even this morning?"

"That's right," the receptionist nodded. "Did Mr. Kelly ask you to meet him here? He might be on his way. Please, follow me to the lounge."

Jessica's heart sank.

James had lied to her!

He had said there was an issue at Kelly Corporation that he needed to handle.

But he hadn't shown up at the office at all today.

So where had he gone?

"Mrs. Kelly?" The receptionist looked at her with concern. "You don't look well. Should I call a doctor?"

Jessica forced a smile, "No, thank you. I won't wait for him. I'll head back."

With that, she left Kelly Corporation, feeling utterly dejected.

The cold wind hit her face as she wandered down the street, her nose and eyes turning red.

She thought it must be the cold making her eyes water.

She couldn't understand why James had lied to her.

He had been so serious about picking out clothes this morning, so excited about getting their marriage certificate.

Why couldn't he take that final step?

Just then, a car pulled up in front of her.

Jessica jumped back in surprise.

Pearl stepped out of the car.

Jessica glared at her, "What do you want?"

In broad daylight, Pearl had deliberately blocked her path. It was clear she was looking for her.

Pearl sneered, "No need to be scared. There are people everywhere. What could I possibly do? I just heard about your background from Grandmother and thought I'd share it with you."

Jessica frowned, trying to discern the truth in her words.

But remembering how many times Pearl had deceived her, she replied coldly, "I'm not interested. Move."

Pearl stood her ground, looking Jessica up and down, "You don't want to know about your background? Jessica, you're not Dad's biological daughter. Grandmother will never tell you the truth! The only person who can is me. Don't you want to know why your real parents abandoned you?"
