Chapter 411 Pledging Herself to James (1)

Listening to John's helpless and desperate confession, Jessica knew that she ultimately couldn't refuse and couldn't watch the Evans family fend for themselves.

Although John didn't make it clear, she knew what she had to do next.

She comforted him, "Dad, don't worry, I'll go ask him."

There was no other way.

With such a large funding gap, she couldn't ask Lily for help, and Lily couldn't possibly come up with that much money.

The only person who could help her was James.

Even though she was extremely reluctant, and even if the path ahead was fraught with danger, she had no way out.

Just thinking about the child in her womb made her feel sorry for this little life.

His father already had another child, and she could never give him a proper home.

The next day, Jessica took a day off and went to Gerald's hospital room.

She initially wanted to go directly to the Kelly Corporation to find him, but considering how much he hated her now, he might not even agree to see her.

It was better to go to Gerald's place and spend some time with him.

James didn't return from the company until evening. When he saw her, his eyes were cold, as if she were invisible.

Gerald, displeased, scolded, "What are you glaring at? Jessica is here to see me. If you have a problem with that, you can get out!"

James realized that Jessica had Gerald wrapped around her finger.

He couldn't help but recall the butler's words from the previous day.

As long as he could win over Jessica, the obstacles Gerald had set for him would be easily resolved.

After all, Jack had returned from Bangkok today, and George had even helped him connect with several high-level executives at the Kelly Corporation.

Although those executives banding together wouldn't make much of a difference, they still posed a bit of a threat to James.

At such a critical moment, he couldn't afford to lose!

But Jessica had used Gerald to suppress Rose and blackmail him, and he couldn't bring himself to treat her the same as before.

James left the hospital room, went to the stairwell, and smoked a cigarette to calm his nerves.

Before long, a small hand suddenly snatched the cigarette from his fingers.

James then realized that Jessica had somehow appeared beside him.

He frowned and said, "Give me back my cigarette."

Jessica threw the half-smoked cigarette into the trash can.

Suppressing his anger, James said, "Jessica, I've already stopped arguing with you, and yet you still come to provoke me. Do you think that just because we're divorced, I won't dare to touch you?"

Jessica swallowed her grievances and calmly said, "Can we talk properly?"

"What kind of excuse do you have this time?"

James narrowed his eyes and looked at her coldly.

Jessica said each word clearly, "I didn't complain to Grandpa, and I never intended to harm Rose and her child. Whether you believe it or not, I didn't do it. I'm here today to ask for your help with something."

James became interested, his deep eyes contemplating something as he raised his chin, signaling her to continue.

Jessica didn't dare to meet his gaze and looked down, speaking softly, "My dad's company is facing a significant funding gap. Can you help him?"

After she finished speaking, she felt utterly humiliated, her face burning with shame.

James sneered, "When you need money, you come to me? Aren't you already messing around with the teacher? Why not go to Nathan?"

Jessica clenched her fists but didn't dare to argue.

She knew just how lowly she was now. When asking for help, one always had to lower their stance.
