Chapter 478 Make It Clear (4)
Jacob smiled and said, "That's for the best. Please keep this secret."
"And what about you? Are you planning to toy with Lily's feelings?"
Jessica angrily said, "If that's your intention, I won't stand by and watch!"
Just then, Lily returned from the restroom.
Jacob and Jessica immediately composed themselves, showing no signs of their previous emotions.
"What were you two talking about?" Lily asked with a smile. "I saw you both from a distance, chatting away!"
Jacob smiled and brushed it off, saying, "Jessica was reminiscing about our school days. Thinking back, it really is quite nostalgic."
Lily happily snuggled into his arms and said, "I don't miss it at all. If it weren't for the no-dating rule back then, I would have been with you every day. Now it's so much better; I can openly love you every day."
Jessica felt a lump in her throat, kept her head down, and ate in silence.
Even just seeing Lily so infatuated with Jacob made her angry and feel it wasn't worth it for her.
All the words were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't bear to disappoint Lily or make her feel bad.
So, while eating, she sent a message to James, asking him to come pick her up.
Just like that, before finishing the meal, Jessica used James as an excuse to leave the restaurant.
James looked at Jessica's troubled face in the passenger seat and asked, "Weren't you having dinner with your best friend? Why are you heading back so early?"
Jessica clenched her fists tightly and said through gritted teeth, "I really want to expose Jacob right to his face! But in the end, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm afraid Lily would be devastated if she knew the truth. You have no idea how hard it is for me to hold back."
James smiled, gently stroking her soft hair, and said, "This shows that you've grown up and matured. That's why you consider things so thoroughly."
Jessica felt conflicted.
Could it be, as James said, that hiding the truth from Lily is a sign of maturity?
But Lily is her best friend. How could she bear to watch Lily fall deeper and deeper without doing anything?
Jessica said gloomily, "I'm a bit tired. I want to rest."
With that, she silently walked towards the bedroom.
James watched her back, his brow deeply furrowed.
He quickly went into the study and made a call to Michael.
James lowered his voice and asked, "Lily's fiancé, was that your doing? What exactly are you planning?"
Michael responded with a short, cold sentence, "I have no comment."
James sighed and said, "Adam indeed committed an unforgivable mistake. I support your desire for revenge. But Adam's daughter is innocent and knows nothing. Why hurt her just to get back at Adam? If you do that, how are you any different from Adam back then?"
Michael suddenly became agitated and said coldly, "Don't lecture me! And aren't you meddling too much? Fine, out of brotherly respect, I'll give you this one. But when it comes to the Stewart family, I won't hold back. You'd better stay out of it, or we won't be brothers anymore!"
Listening to the busy tone on the phone, James put down his cell and couldn't help but worry about Lily's future.
