Chapter 167 James is Jealous (2)
Regrettably, such beauty didn't belong to him.
James gripped his wine glass tighter, eyes sparking.
Two years married, and he never knew Jessica could dance like that.
Rose, next to him, noticed his change. She said, "James, Miss Evans and Mr. Jack Kelly look great together! If you feel guilty, why not let her be with Jack? We can still be family."
Her words only fueled James's anger. If it weren't for the crowd, he might've already dragged Jessica off the dance floor. How dare she wear such revealing clothes and flaunt herself? How dare her?
Seeing his tense expression, Rose played her part. She asked, "James, I want to dance too. Will you dance with me?"
"Didn't I say this is boring?" James downed his wine. "I don't want to be one of these boring people," he replied coldly.
Rose, undeterred, looked at him affectionately. "I can talk to the planner and arrange a private dance for us without signing up."
As she spoke, the dance ended, and Jessica and Jack stepped off the floor.
Jessica sensed his gaze and looked at him, but quickly looked away when their eyes met.
Rose persisted, "James, come on, let's dance!"
James put down his glass, eyes unreadable. Rose thought he agreed and was about to offer her hand.
But James said, "Go sign up. The second round has started."
Rose's expression stiffened, fingers clenched. He told her to sign up but had no intention of joining. 'Does he not care who dances with me?' she wondered.
Not far away, Jessica was attracting attention with her dance moves.
Many men approached her, but Jessica politely declined them all. She felt James's sharp gaze earlier and wanted to leave. She shouldn't have come to this party.
She was just torturing herself of seeing Rose and James so affectionate. But she couldn't find Lily and had to wait for her to leave together.
Pearl, seeing Jessica admired by many, was driven mad with jealousy. To undermine Jessica, Pearl complained to her friends, and rumors spread quickly. Soon, whispers filled the ball, accusing Jessica of flaunting fake jewelry at a high-society event.
Fueled by Pearl's instigations, a few drama-loving women approached Jessica with malicious smiles.
"Are you Pearl's sister?" one sneered. "I've heard you envy Pearl. Didn't expect you'd wear fake jewelry to compete with her."
Another chimed in, "Oh dear, you should leave early! Bringing fake stuff to this party, aren't you ashamed?"
"Exactly!" a third added. "The Pink Heart by Karen is patented. Aren't you afraid of getting sued?"
Jessica blinked in confusion. She hadn't thought much about the artificial diamond bracelet Jack had gifted her, assuming it was just a pretty decoration. She didn’t feel guilty wearing it.
