When Jessica got off work, she saw James's car parked punctually outside the hospital.
She didn't feel the joy of being personally picked up by him.
Instead, she felt exhausted from living a life under constant surveillance.
Getting into the car, she was shocked to see the bruises on James's mouth and cheekbones.
Jessica was startled and quickly asked, "What happened to your face?"
"Nothing, just got into a fight."
James brushed it off nonchalantly.
Jessica looked at him in disbelief and said, "How old are you? And you're still getting into fights?"
Moreover, with James's status, who would dare to fight him?
Even if there was a fight, he wouldn't need to get involved personally, right?
Seeing her confusion, James didn't want to hide it and said directly, "I fought with Nathan."
Jessica's eyes widened in shock!
"What did you say?"
She said incredulously, "You fought with Professor Howard? Did he do this?"
She couldn't believe that the always gentle and elegant Nathan would hit someone.
James let out a cold laugh, with a hint of threat in his tone, "Jessica, you'd better be worried about me with that expression, not about whether Nathan is hurt."
Jessica said, "Why should I worry about you? Professor Howard isn't that kind of person; you must have provoked him first. What did you say to him that made him fight you?"
A flash of anger appeared in James's eyes as he gritted his teeth and said, "You and Nathan are sympathetic to each other. He cares about you, and you care about him! I just warned him to stay away from you because you're carrying my child, and I don't want anyone coveting you!"
Jessica was stunned by his words.
She angrily shouted at him, "Are you crazy? Professor Howard is my teacher. Why would you say such things to him? James, do you want me to be unable to stay in this hospital, to become a target for everyone? Can't I have anyone who treats me well?"
After saying that, she pushed open the car door, ready to get out.
But James grabbed her wrist at that moment and said coldly, "Where are you going? Don't tell me you want to find him and comfort him!"
"I don't need you to control me. Where I want to go is my freedom!"
Jessica was so angry she almost lost her mind.
All she knew was that her reputation was about to be ruined by James.
It was hard enough to have someone who was both a mentor and a friend, who didn't misunderstand her and always supported her, and now James had messed that up too.
Who knows what Nathan would think of her now?
James closed the car door and locked it, saying, "You're not going anywhere today. Tomorrow morning, we're going to the city hall to get a marriage license. Maybe Nathan is right; since you're carrying my child, I should give you a title, so our child won't be laughed at as an illegitimate child!"
Jessica angrily said, "Anyway, I'm not the only one carrying your illegitimate child. If you're such a good man, you should give Rose a title too. Don't forget, she's also carrying your child. As for me, I don't care about the title you give, and I don't care about the position of Mrs. Kelly!"
As soon as she finished speaking, James's phone rang.
They both glanced at the phone screen; it was a call from Rose.
James, full of annoyance, was about to turn it off, but Jessica grabbed it first and answered.
Soon, Rose's sweet and weak voice came through, "James, the baby has been kicking me a lot these past few days. I'm so scared the pregnancy isn't stable. Even though I'm back in the country now, I still have nightmares about being held hostage by those terrorists. I have nightmares every day. Can you come and stay with me?"
