Chapter 335 Nathan Helped Her Out (2)
"No worries. You take over Dr. Lee's night shift. Dr. Lee, you'll assist. And Jessica, you're coming along too," Nathan said.
He paused and added, "Jessica, you just had a night shift last night. Are you too tired to assist now? If so, go get some rest. There'll be other chances."
"I'm good. Not tired at all," Jessica replied. She didn't want to miss out on this rare opportunity. Even Nathan's grad students rarely got to assist in his surgeries. Now that she had the chance, she wasn't about to let it slip. "I'm ready to assist," she said eagerly.
Nathan smiled, "This surgery might go late. Afterward, I'll treat you all to a snack."
With Cynthia shooting envious looks, Jessica and the on-duty doctor, Elodie, followed Nathan to the operating room.
Once they left, Cynthia angrily tossed the medical records to the ground. She didn't come here in the middle of the night to do grunt work; she wanted to learn from Nathan!
What made her even angrier was that she had just finished a night shift last night and hadn't rested much, yet she had to cover for Elodie. Her resentment toward Jessica grew. Jessica must've said something to Nathan to make him treat her this way. Nathan had always valued her and even said she had potential!
Jessica followed Nathan to the operating room, feeling pretty nervous. There was always a gap between textbook knowledge and real-life practice. Even though she thought she had the textbook stuff down, she still felt flustered in the OR.
Nathan was super patient. With his high status, his reputation was well-deserved. From handwashing and dressing to all the little details in the OR, Nathan personally guided her. Jessica saw firsthand what it meant to be a true master—gentle and refined. No wonder so many people at Ocean City University admired him. It wasn't just his young talent and graceful demeanor; he was also approachable and fair.
By the time the surgery was over, it was almost midnight. Nathan wanted to treat Elodie and Jessica to a snack, but Cynthia had already called multiple times, urging Elodie to hurry back.
Elodie smiled wryly, "Professor Howard, I need to get back to the department, or Cynthia will be furious. I'll skip the snack. Following your surgery today was incredibly rewarding—way more valuable than any snack!"
Nathan nodded, and Elodie hurried back. He then looked at Jessica and asked, "Is Cynthia really that tough?"
Jessica pursed her lips and gave him a look that said, "Isn't it obvious enough?"
Nathan chuckled at her expression, "Seems like she's quite the actress. She acts so sensible and well-behaved in front of me. I really thought she had potential."
