Chapter 363 Why Not Just Be with Professor Howard (1)

The director just wanted to get rid of Jessica as fast as possible; that way, the hospital would have the least connection to the mess.

Even if it went to court, they could pin it on Jessica, and most of the compensation would come from her, with the hospital only chipping in a bit.

Nathan knew exactly what the director was up to.

He said, "Didn't the patient's family say they were open to a private settlement? Let's do that."

The director looked shocked, then got even angrier. "Settle privately? Do you know how much they're asking for? Two hundred grand! Are you saying the hospital should pay? Should we lose two hundred grand for an intern's mistake? Professor Howard, have you lost your mind? Do you think our hospital is that dumb?"

Nathan's face stayed calm, but he said something that stunned the director, "I'll pay."

"What?" The director thought he misheard. "You said you'll pay? Mr. Howard, that's two hundred thousand dollars, not pocket change. Sure, I know you and the Howard family have money, but is it worth it to pay that much for an intern?"

Nathan didn't hesitate, "Absolutely! She's a promising and talented student. Plus, we both know she's just a scapegoat here. So, I'll handle it."

The director looked at him in disbelief, then smirked, "Interesting. I always thought you were all about research. I didn't expect you to be so decisive on saving an intern and to spend money like it's nothing."

Nathan frowned a bit. Even he felt a bit gross, using two hundred grand to buy peace. But he had no choice; it was the only way to protect Jessica and calm the patient's family's anger.

Since Nathan was willing to pay, the director decided to go along with it. After all, Nathan was a top doctor and brought in a lot of money for the hospital, so the director didn't want to upset him.

Nathan took just one day to pay the family and get them to sign a confidentiality agreement, keeping the hospital's name out of it.

Once it was all done, he finally relaxed.

When Jessica found out the school and hospital had dropped their actions against her, she was shocked and confused.

She went to Nathan's office and asked, "Professor Howard, how did you convince the director and the patient's family?"

Nathan wasn't about to tell her the truth.

He didn't want someone as pure as Jessica to know the dirty details.

He needed to boost her confidence and give her hope to keep going.

So, Nathan smiled and said, "I told them about the time you saved someone on the road, showing the director you're a good doctor with a strong sense of justice. The director didn't want to lose a good doctor, so he let it go. As for the patient's family, the hospital's PR team handled it. I don't know the details."
