Chapter 557 Always the One Who Is Let Down (3)
She had left her phone and everything else at the Skyline Club. She wondered if James had gone home.
If he noticed she was missing, would he come looking for her?
Jessica couldn't help but tear up.
Why was James never there when she needed him the most?
Maybe it was because she had been so frightened today, and the soup she had just had, but Jessica lay down on the bed and drifted off into a fitful sleep.
She was jolted awake by a nightmare.
She had dreamt of Doyle's creepy, leering face again.
And the owner of the Skyline Club, that strange owner.
Why had he let her go so easily?
Jessica sat up abruptly, drenched in sweat.
Nathan happened to walk into the room and hurried over, his voice tinged with concern, "Jessica, are you okay?"
It took Jessica a while to gather her thoughts.
She let out a long sigh and shook her head, "I'm fine."
Nathan looked at her with concern and asked, "Did you have a nightmare?"
"Yes."
Jessica suddenly came to her senses and said awkwardly, "Mr. Howard, I'm sorry for disturbing you and Aunt Kennedy last night. I should be going now."
With that, she hurriedly got out of bed and put on her coat, still looking quite disheveled.
Nathan grabbed her arm and frowned, "In your current state, you need to rest. I think you have a lot on your mind that you haven't sorted out yet. Stay here and take it easy. My mom and I won't bother you."
"No."
Jessica said awkwardly, "I already troubled you enough last night. I really should go home now, or James will worry about me."
Maybe he had already called her many times, but she didn't know because she had lost her phone.
Thinking of this, Jessica wanted to go back and see him even more.
Just as she was about to leave again, Nathan finally couldn't hold back and said, "Are you in such a hurry to see him? He might not even want to see you!"
Jessica stopped abruptly and turned around, looking at him in shock.
"Mr. Howard, what are you talking about?"
She didn't understand why Nathan lost his usual composure and became so aggressive whenever James was mentioned.
Nathan's eyes were dark and sharp as he spoke each word clearly, "Do you know what I was doing last night?"
Jessica was stunned and said, "Aunt Kennedy said you went for a consultation."
"Yes, I went for a consultation."
Nathan laughed mockingly, "The patient’s name is Rose. She had a premature birth and many complications. Your husband James stayed with her all night, gathering all the specialists to her bedside for a consultation. I was one of them."
Jessica looked at him in disbelief, feeling as if she had fallen into an icy abyss.
So, James had left without looking back when they were getting their marriage certificate to be with Rose while she gave birth.
No wonder he lied to her.
No wonder!
Tears fell silently as Jessica stood there, lost in thought.
Seeing her devastated expression, Nathan instantly regretted it.
He had spent all night wondering if he should tell her.
He hadn't wanted to hurt her with this information.
But he wanted her to see clearly that James would never have only her in his heart.
Nathan walked up to her and softened his voice, "In James' heart, there will never be just you. As long as something happens to Rose, he will always abandon you. Jessica, you will always be the one who is let down. Do you understand?"
Jessica's heart felt like a heavy stone sinking deep.
She broke down and yelled at him, "Why? Why did you have to tell me this?"
