Jessica hesitated, "I think it's fine. Professor Howard believes me too."
Kylie snapped, "Didn't the hospital tell you to go home and rest? If he believed you, why would he send you home? These doctors just cover for each other. If something goes wrong, he'll protect his buddies. They don't care about us."
Jessica started to feel uneasy but still shook her head, "Professor Howard isn't like that. I trust him."
Kylie pressed on, "Then tell me, after he sent you home, did he update you on the situation? It's been a whole day and night. The hospital and school leaders know about it; there should be some news, right? Did he tell you anything?"
Jessica's face fell. She shook her head, "No."
Kylie got even more suspicious. "Wait for me. I'll sneak over to the cardiology department this afternoon and find out what's going on. I bet Professor Howard is in cahoots with Cynthia!"
Jessica was really scared now.
Yesterday, Nathan had called her to his office, had a heartfelt talk, and comforted her, so she wasn't as nervous or scared anymore. She believed Nathan was a good guy and would handle things fairly.
Besides, she hadn't done anything wrong, so she had no reason to feel guilty! She always thought Cynthia should be the one afraid.
But now, things had blown up, and the patient's family had only given Nathan two days. Would Nathan really find a way to protect her, an intern?
Thinking about this, Jessica lost her appetite and put down her knife and fork in frustration.
She pleaded with Kylie, "Kylie, you have to help me find out what's going on in the cardiology department and see if they have any plans."
Kylie nodded seriously, "Okay, you go home first. If I find out anything, I'll come to your place."
Afraid Kylie might miss her, Jessica said, "I'm not at home. I'm at the hospital. You can find me in the neurosurgery department."
Kylie looked surprised, "What are you doing in the neurosurgery department?"
Jessica said gloomily, "James's grandpa is very sick. It's serious. He's always treated me well, like his own granddaughter. I have to stay there, take care of him, and be with him in his final moments."
Kylie was shocked, "What? So, you and James... you guys..."
Kylie shook her head, "What a mess! You just got divorced, and it's only been a few days!"
But the urgent matter now was to help Jessica resolve this issue.
Kylie didn't ask more about her personal affairs and hurriedly ran to the cardiology department to find out the news.
At the Cardiology Department, Kylie found a schoolmate, made some small talk, and then started to inquire about Jessica's situation.
The classmate pointed towards Nathan's office, "The hospital and school leaders are in Mr. Howard's office now."
Kylie asked, "So what did they say? Did they mention how they're going to handle Jessica?"
