Chapter 604 His Questioning (4)
"Yeah, I'm scared of you meeting her!"
Rose was crying, tears streaming down her face as she choked out, "We worked so hard to be together, and now we have Isaac. We're so happy, so complete. If that Susan really is Jessica, then what about my Isaac? He's so small, so fragile, already dealing with a serious illness. Do you really want him to grow up without a father?"
Her tearful pleas hit James right in the heart.
Yeah, he and Rose had Isaac now.
And Jessica?
She had aborted his child and left him without a second thought.
Even if she came back, what difference would it make?
Would he abandon Isaac?
Besides, for the past five years, it was Rose who had been by his side.
"James, you've seen how much I've given to Isaac, to you, to this family."
Rose's eyes were filled with tears, her voice trembling, "I'm a woman too. I can't be so generous as to give Isaac's father to someone else. But now that you know Susan is Jessica, if you really decide to leave us, then I have nothing more to say."
James felt a heavy weight on his heart, as if taking another step forward would be a sin.
So, he spoke softly, "I won't leave you and Isaac. Stop overthinking."
Rose finally breathed a sigh of relief. That was close!
She cried tears of joy, throwing herself into James's arms, holding him tightly, "I knew you wouldn't be so heartless. After all, you mean so much to Isaac. If you left him, it would be worse than his illness."
She kept mentioning Isaac’s illness, subtly reminding James not to act rashly.
Three days later, at Kelly Corporation, in the CEO’s office.
Sean handed over the investigation report to James, "Mr. Kelly, Ms. Kelly was in a car accident five years ago. She suffered a head injury and lost some of her memories. She’s been abroad at a top medical school doing research. Apart from some scientific achievements, her life has been simple and clean, with no significant relationships or events. We couldn’t find her for five years because she changed her name. No one expected her to become an internationally renowned medical expert."
James's heart clenched at the word 'accident.'
"How did she get into a car accident?"
James pressed, "Besides the head injury, was she hurt anywhere else?"
Sean shook his head, "From what we’ve found, it seems there were no other injuries."
James's eyes dimmed, and he said, "I understand. You can go now."
After Sean left, James was alone in the large office.
The loneliness he had felt countless times over the past five years washed over him again.
James leaned back in his chair, rubbing his aching temples.
What should he do?
He had a family now, a child, even though he and Rose weren’t married yet.
But Isaac couldn’t be without a mother.
Should he just give up on Jessica?
The word 'give up' made his heart tighten.
He realized he couldn’t do it.
