Chapter 288 Jessica Went to a Social Event

Rose's face got all sad and teary. "Look, I'm not asking for much. Just wanna give this baby a proper home and a legit name. I know you won't go for it. If you were cool with it, you wouldn't have pushed James to ship me off before."

Jessica felt a twinge of guilt, but hey, Rose did have someone rough up John, so it wasn't all on her. After mulling it over, Jessica finally sighed and said, "I get it. I can make you Mrs. Kelly."

Rose's lips curled into a sly smile. "Since you're being so nice, I'll think about letting your dad go," she said, patting her baby bump. "But you better get that divorce done fast. My kid needs a dad."

Jessica felt like her heart was getting shredded. Rose had James's kid. What did she have?

Then Rose's voice got all scheming. "Ms. Evans, if James finds out the divorce is 'cause of me, he might get mad at me later. I need him to think it's you who doesn't wanna be with him anymore. Got it?"

Jessica felt like a puppet, strings pulled tight by Rose. Even Michael couldn't save her dad. What choice did she have but to go along with Rose's demands?

Rose, acting all helpful, said, "No rush. You've got two months before the first trial. Plenty of time to make James back off."

Jessica stumbled back to their villa, her mind spinning with ways to get James to let go. 'How do I make him leave me? Will he only let me go if he hates me?' As she was thinking, a live video from a college social popped up in her Facebook group. It was a student council thing to help folks mingle.

Jessica had never gone to one of these, but suddenly, she had an idea. She told Olivia, "I won't be home for dinner. Got something to do."

Olivia, worried, asked, "So late, are you working overtime at the hospital again?"

"Nope, going to a social event, just at the hotel near the hospital," Jessica said, dropping a hint.

Olivia, being older, didn't get what these events were about and casually mentioned it to James when he got home.

"What did you say? She went to a social event?" James frowned, knowing these things were just an excuse to flirt. He never thought Jessica would go to one, especially this late.

Olivia, trying to be helpful, said, "Mr. Kelly, do you want to pick up Mrs. Kelly? It's not safe for her to come home so late."

James, cold as ice, replied, "No." He wanted to see when Jessica would come back.
