Chapter 287 I Apologize on Behalf of My Dad

Michael dodged her question, trying to play it cool. "Does James know you're here? I already gave him the lowdown on your dad's case. Maybe you should chat with him."

Jessica's voice was shaky, frustration bubbling up. "He won't spill the beans! This is my dad we're talking about. I deserve to know what's going on more than anyone. Please, Mr. Watson, just tell me—how's my dad? What charges is he facing? Can you take me to see him? I can't believe he'd hit Rose without hearing it from him first."

Michael saw the fire in Jessica's eyes and knew she wasn't leaving without answers. With a heavy sigh, he started, "Your dad's case is a mess, Ms. Evans. The evidence is solid. It's not about what you think."

"Then let me see him," Jessica begged, gripping his sleeve tight. "I need to hear it from him."

Michael sighed again, "Ms. Evans, this is a criminal case. Your dad's in custody, and only his lawyer can visit him. Family members can't. Your best bet is to talk to Rose. If she writes a letter of understanding and drops the charges, we might bail him out."

Jessica's heart sank at the thought of facing Rose. Could she really convince someone who hated her to help her dad? Despite her doubts, she knew she had to try.

"Please, Mr. Watson, don't tell James I came to see you. Let's keep this between us," she said firmly.

Michael felt a pang of guilt. If James found out he spilled the beans to Jessica, their friendship would be toast.

He nodded. "Don't stress too much. Go back and talk to James. He's keeping it from you to protect you. He thought this would blow over quickly. But Rose is being stubborn, so things are stuck."

"Okay, thanks." Jessica thanked him and bolted out of his office.

On her way, she hit up Kylie for Rose's hospital address and room number and rushed over.

When she got to the hospital, seeing Rose threw her for a loop. Rose, who used to be all confidence and sass, now looked fragile, tears streaming down her face. Her bandaged legs and pale face made her look so vulnerable. Despite their beef, Jessica felt a pang of compassion.

"How are you?" Jessica asked softly.

Rose's voice was thick with emotion. "The baby and I are still here, so I guess we're lucky."

Seeing Rose like this made it hard for Jessica to believe she'd fake it. As a doctor, Jessica's heart ached at the sight. "I'm sorry for what my dad did. I didn't think you'd be hurt this bad," she said sincerely.

Tears streamed down Rose's face as she snapped back, "What's an apology worth? The doctor said I'll never dance again. Even if your dad rots in jail, it won't fix my legs!"

Jessica's mind spun. Permanent damage to Rose's legs and her dad possibly spending life in prison was a lot to take in.

Gathering all her courage, she finally said the hard words, "I know my dad's actions have caused you so much pain. But I'm begging you to let him go. Once he's out, I'll bring him to apologize in person. You can set any conditions, and I'll follow them."
