Chapter 307 James is Injured (3)
Before the cops even showed up, James had already knocked those two goons to their knees, begging for mercy.
James's eyes were bloodshot, and he had this faint killer vibe going on.
He really didn't want to let them off that easy.
But Jessica held him back, whispering, "Stop it. I just wanna go home. Let's go home!"
Only then did James chill out a bit, giving each of them one last kick before grabbing Jessica and hopping into his car.
Jessica was still freaked out, leaning against the seat, totally zoned out.
She felt tears welling up, but she fought to keep them from falling.
James barked, "It's so late. Why didn't you call home and get the driver to pick you up?"
Even though he was yelling, she didn't feel sad; instead, a warmth spread through her heart.
The word "home" from him made her feel like she belonged.
James thought about those two jerks pulling at her. If he had been a bit later, he couldn't imagine what would've happened to Jessica. This thought made his anger flare up even more.
He shouted, "Jessica! Are you mute? You're always so sharp-tongued. Why are you silent now?"
Jessica lowered her head, tears falling one by one, and quietly said, "I'm sorry. I've caused you trouble again."
The streetlamp outside made her tears look like crystal, so moving.
James's heart softened, a mix of anger and pain filling him.
He softened his expression, leaned over to hold her in his arms, and gently said, "Alright, it's okay now."
He hated this unpredictable side of himself.
He had been so mad just now, but the moment Jessica cried, he immediately caved.
He couldn't stand to see her cry; it made his heart ache.
Jessica was worried that if she let herself feel his tenderness, she would lose her way.
So she quickly pulled away from his embrace, sat properly in her seat, wiped her tears, and said, "I'll be more careful in the future."
James felt an emptiness in his arms, and his heart twitched.
His face darkened as he started the car and focused on the road ahead.
Pearl stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in the master bedroom, curiously looking out.
She saw James and Jessica getting out of the car in the courtyard and was immediately bummed out.
To Pearl's surprise, even though James made Jessica live in the storage room, he would still bring her home himself, even at such a late hour.
In the courtyard, Jessica had sobered up a lot on the way back and deliberately kept her distance from James.
After arriving home, she headed straight to the storage room.
But James grabbed her hand and said, "Jessica, do you hate me that much? Even living in the storage room, you won't beg me or come back to me?"
Jessica turned around, her smile more desolate than the moonlight tonight.
She quietly said, "You already have Rose, and now you have Pearl. Why can't you just let me go? James, if you want to torment me, fine. One day, you'll get tired of it."
James tightened his grip, staring at her. "Winter's coming. It's gonna get colder. If you ask me, you can move back to the master bedroom, and I can make Pearl leave immediately."
Jessica smiled. "You know I can't do that."
James's patience wore thin, and he let go of her hand, walking into the villa with a cold expression.
