Chapter 548 Left Her at This Time (2)
After finishing breakfast, the two headed to the courthouse.
Even though they had already informed the court yesterday and were told they could come anytime, Jessica didn't want to cut in line. So, they arrived right when the courthouse opened.
They were the first couple there.
James held Jessica's hand, and they exchanged smiles.
Just as they stepped into the courthouse, Sean suddenly rushed over, panting and standing in front of James.
"Mr. Kelly."
He looked flustered and uneasy, glancing at Jessica with some hesitation, unsure of how to start.
Sensing something, James said to Jessica, "Wait here for a moment. I'll be right back."
Jessica assumed it was an issue with Kelly Corporation and nodded obediently. "Okay, you go ahead."
James followed Sean a bit further away.
He then asked, displeased, "What's going on? Why are you here now?"
If Sean didn't have a convincing reason, James was ready to send him to the Bangkok branch!
Sean, in a panic, said, "Ms. Morris went into labor, but it's premature and complicated. The situation is critical, and the doctor needs a guardian's signature. I don't have the authority to sign."
James was shocked and asked incredulously, "How did she go into labor early?"
Sean, trembling, replied, "Maybe it's because she's been drinking heavily lately. I'm not sure, but the doctor said someone needs to sign for the surgery. Should I find someone to authorize it, or will you go sign?"
James hesitated for a long time, glancing back at Jessica, who was quietly sitting on a bench.
Feeling a pang of guilt, he told Sean, "Take Jessica home first. I'll go to the hospital and sign."
Even though he had promised Jessica not to see Rose again, this was a matter of life and death.
Rose's drinking was because of him, and her difficult labor was also because of him.
How could he be so irresponsible and ignore it?
Finally, he made the tough decision to leave the courthouse.
Sean watched him leave, feeling a headache coming on.
Why did James always dump these tricky problems on him?
He thought Rose was already a handful, but now, dealing with Jessica was even more complicated.
After hesitating for a moment, Sean awkwardly walked over, trying to act nonchalant.
Jessica quickly stood up, looking behind him, and asked, "Where's James?"
"Something came up at Kelly Corporation, and Mr. Kelly went back to handle it."
Sean smiled and said, "Mrs. Kelly, how about I take you home first? Once Mr. Kelly finishes, he can bring you back to get the marriage certificate."
Jessica, worried, asked, "What happened at Kelly Corporation? Is it serious?"
"Not serious."
Sean quickly replied, "Mr. Kelly just needs to handle it. It's nothing major."
Jessica paused, looking at him thoughtfully. "Really? If it wasn't serious, he wouldn't leave me without saying anything. Are you hiding something from me?"
Sean's expression changed, and he awkwardly explained, "Mrs. Kelly, you're overthinking it. It's not serious, but it's urgent and needs Mr. Kelly's attention. How about this: when Mr. Kelly returns, you can ask him yourself."
Jessica didn't press further, telling herself she was probably overthinking it.
