Chapter 26 Wrongly Accused
The two of them went downstairs together.
Gerald walked over proactively, lovingly patted Jessica's hand, and spoke with a tone that carried a hint of undeniable authority:
"James, you need to take good care of Jessica and give me a great-grandchild soon."
This was directed at James, but he only responded indifferently, not saying much, as if he didn't care about the matter.
Jessica felt bitter inside. She knew that James didn't love her, and to him, a child might just be a tool to inherit the family business.
After breakfast, James took Jessica away from the Kelly Family's old mansion.
The car drove smoothly on the wide road, and the sunlight streaming through the window fell on Jessica, but it couldn't dispel the coldness in her heart.
She sat in the passenger seat, staring blankly at the passing scenery outside the window, her mind replaying the events of last night, feeling utterly confused.
James remained silent as usual, his eyes fixed ahead, focused on driving, as if the person sitting next to him was just an insignificant stranger.
The atmosphere in the car was suffocating. Jessica wanted to say something several times but ultimately chose to remain silent.
James's expression grew increasingly grim, and he finally stopped the car abruptly.
"Get out," James ordered coldly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Jessica was stunned, not understanding his meaning, and a look of doubt flashed in her eyes.
"I said get out of the car!"
Meeting James's deep gaze, Jessica pressed her lips tightly together, then opened the car door.
After she got out, James drove away immediately.
Watching the car gradually disappear, Jessica clenched her hands at her sides, taking a deep breath to force herself to calm down.
Anyway, it was still early, and the evening breeze was quite refreshing, so she decided to take a walk.
She started walking aimlessly but was soon drawn by a suppressed cry of pain.
Realizing something was wrong, Jessica quickly turned to check the situation.
An old woman had fallen to the ground, frowning deeply, seemingly enduring great pain.
"Are you okay?"
The incident happened so suddenly that Jessica didn't have time to react much. She hurried to the person's side, trying to help them up.
"I... I have a heart condition..." the old woman said hoarsely, trying to retrieve medication from his pocket.
Understanding the situation, Jessica quickly took out the medicine bottle and helped the old woman take the medication.
Not daring to waste any time, she called an ambulance. The priority was to get the person to the hospital; heart conditions were no joke.
"Mom! What's wrong with you!"
Just as Jessica hung up the phone, a middle-aged man ran over, supporting the old woman with a face full of sorrow.
"Your mother, she..."
"It must be you! What did my mom do to offend you? How could you be so cruel to an old woman? I can't believe such a pretty girl could be so vicious!"
The man said, grabbing Jessica's wrist tightly and not letting her leave.
More and more people gathered around, watching the scene unfold. Some even took out their phones to take pictures, but no one spoke up for Jessica.
"Your mother had a heart attack. I called an ambulance to help. It has nothing to do with me!"
Jessica's wrist hurt from the man's grip, and she trembled slightly, trying to struggle but to no avail.
"Cut the crap. My mom was fine just a moment ago, and then she had a heart attack after seeing you? Who do you think will believe that? You must come with me to the hospital!"
