Chapter 556 Always the One Who Is Let Down (2)
Nathan's dad, Yosef Howard, is a professor at a top medical school overseas. He got recruited with a high salary, so he spent most of his time abroad.
When it comes to the Howard family's affairs, Kennedy handles the smaller stuff, but big decisions like marriage definitely need Yosef's approval.
Nathan sighed and said, "It's too soon to talk about this. I don't want to freak her out or spill my feelings. I just can't stand seeing her hurt or disappointed."
Kennedy looked at Nathan with concern, unsure how to stop him from getting in too deep.
The Howard family has always been pretty democratic and open-minded about raising their kids.
As a result, Kennedy has always been particularly lenient with Nathan.
But the current issue is that her son Nathan has not only fallen for his student, but this student is also pregnant.
"Nathan, you..."
Kennedy had just started to speak when Nathan's phone suddenly rang.
He answered the call, and it was an emergency consultation notice from the hospital.
Nathan said, "Mom, I gotta go to the hospital now for an emergency consultation. We'll talk when I get back."
"Okay, be safe."
Kennedy anxiously reminded Nathan.
Before leaving, Nathan said, "Please, take good care of Jessica for me, and don't say anything you shouldn't."
Kennedy hesitated for a moment but then nodded, "Don't worry, I got it."
After Nathan left, Kennedy went to her daughter Briar Howard's room to get some clean pajamas and slowly walked upstairs.
She knocked on the bathroom door and said, "Jessica, I left some pajamas at the door for you. These are Nathan's sister Briar's clothes, they're new and she hasn't worn them yet."
Jessica listened to Kennedy's kind voice and was reminded of her mother.
She replied, "Thank you."
Hearing Kennedy's footsteps fade away, she opened the door and took the pajamas inside.
When she came out again, Kennedy walked in with a bowl of soup.
"Drink this quickly, so you don't catch a cold."
Kennedy smiled gently and said, "Judging by your belly, you must be about five months pregnant, right?"
Jessica nodded, "Yeah, about that."
Kennedy sat on the edge of her bed, looking at her with affection, "You're about the same age as Briar. I didn't expect someone so young to become a mother."
Although Nathan had unrealistic ideas about Jessica, Kennedy didn't objectively dislike her.
She always felt that Jessica had an inherent kindness and innocence.
So, she kindly advised, "Drink the soup and get a good night's sleep. Pregnant women are most afraid of catching a cold or fever, and you can't take medicine."
Kennedy was another source of warmth for Jessica this winter.
She still vividly remembered how Kennedy had helped her out at the charity gala.
So, with gratitude in her eyes, Jessica looked at Kennedy and said, "Thank you. And thank you for helping me out last time. I'm sorry for bothering you so late tonight. I'll leave tomorrow."
Kennedy finally felt relieved.
It seemed that Jessica was not only a sensible child but also had no romantic interest in Nathan.
Kennedy smiled and asked, "Do you need to call home? Won't your husband be worried?"
Jessica felt a bit awkward and had to make up a lie, "I've already informed my family."
"That's good."
Kennedy said, "Mr. Howard just went to the hospital for a consultation. He asked me to take good care of you. If you need anything, just let me know."
With that, Kennedy left the guest room.
Jessica's expression gradually became despondent.
