Chapter 99 Want to Reconcile with Him

Finally, James left.

Jessica felt like her heart was walking away with him. Even though it was still hot summer, she felt a chill inside.

James hadn't come back for over two weeks.

Jessica couldn't focus in class; her mind kept drifting to images of him and Rose together.

Even Kylie noticed her weird actions.

"Jessica, what's up with you lately? You haven't been to the lab." Kylie teased, "You're my only competition. If you quit, what's the point of me trying?"

Jessica rolled her eyes, "You used to say I was your only friend."

Kylie grinned and pulled her along, "We can be both. Come on, let's hit the lab! Forget about all that other stuff."

She seemed to know Jessica's sadness was all about James. But Kylie, coming from a poor family, only believed in herself and prioritized her career.

Jessica reluctantly followed her to the lab, sitting on the side while Kylie worked on her experiment. She'd been dealing with insomnia and had no energy for anything.

Then her phone rang. It was Jack.

Surprised, she answered, "Hey, Jack, what's up?"

Jack explained in a soft voice, "Jessica, it's the fifteenth. The whole family is having dinner at Grandpa's. James is on a business trip and won't make it. I'll pick you up from school, and we'll go together."

Jessica remembered it was the day to visit Mr. Kelly. She hadn't driven and there was no subway, so she agreed.

Before picking her up, Jack dressed up carefully at home. He sprayed gel on his hair, combed it meticulously, and stood in front of the mirror in a suit for a long time before leaving.

But as soon as he got downstairs, he saw Pearl.

"Jack, don't be mad. Let's make up," Pearl said, trying to take his arm.

Jack shook her off, "Get lost. You embarrassed me at the company, and you still have the nerve to come to me?"

Pearl quickly said, "I know I was wrong. I came to tell you some good news."

"Pearl, let me be clear. I was just playing around with you. We're done!" Jack said, walking to his car, "Your good news means nothing to me. Stop following me."

With that, he got in his car and drove eagerly toward Ocean City University.
