Chapter 337 Nathan Helped Her Out (4)
Even with prices going through the roof, the tortellini here was still just 8 bucks a bowl.
Nathan took a bite and nodded, "Not bad. This could give some fancy hotels a run for their money."
"Yeah, I heard that old couple's been making this for twenty years," Jessica said, enjoying her tortellini.
She smiled and added, "Professor Howard, thanks for helping me out today."
"No problem! You're a good girl. You shouldn't be treated like that," Nathan replied.
Then he added, "Take tomorrow off. Get some rest at home."
Jessica looked surprised, "Tomorrow? But tomorrow's Wednesday."
The cardiology department required attendance from Monday to Friday, and if you had a weekend shift, it meant you couldn't rest for the entire week. Jessica often heard her fellow interns complain that although the country mandated two days off per week, the scheduled rest days were just for show. Even if the schedule said they were off from Monday to Friday, they still had to come to work, and no one dared to refuse. Jessica could hardly remember when she last had a day off.
So, she felt that if she dared not to come to work tomorrow, Cynthia definitely wouldn't let her off the hook.
Sensing her thoughts, Nathan said, "Don't worry, I'll talk to Cynthia tomorrow. She won't dare to do anything."
Although Jessica didn't want to follow Nathan's arrangement, the days of working every day without even time to review were really exhausting. So, she smiled and said, "Thank you, Professor Howard. I won't come in tomorrow then. Please make sure to tell Ms. Wells."
"Don't worry," Nathan agreed nonchalantly, but he felt a bit sorry for her. Given her sallow face, she must have been bullied by Cynthia quite a bit.
After finishing eating, Nathan drove her home. But he distinctly remembered that the last time he drove Jessica home, it wasn't to this place.
He asked in confusion, "Did you move?"
Jessica's expression changed slightly, and she nodded. "Professor Howard, it's too late. I'll invite you in next time."
She politely said goodbye to Nathan. He told her to rest well and then drove away.
The next morning at eight, Cynthia didn't see Jessica and immediately got angry. "It's 7:50. Where is Jessica? Why isn't she here yet!"
Just as she was about to call the teaching department to complain, Nathan walked in and said, "I told her to rest at home. Do you have a problem with that, Ms. Wells?"
Cynthia was stunned and awkwardly said, "We have to work from Monday to Friday, Professor Howard. If you're too lenient, you'll spoil the students."
Nathan said expressionlessly, "Ms. Wells, you often make students work overtime on weekends, right? If they can work overtime on weekends, why can't they rest on workdays?"
Cynthia was at a loss for words. With so many people watching her make a fool of herself during the morning handover, she felt extremely embarrassed.
