Chapter 277 Might He Kill You Himself?
James dropped his gaze and muttered, "Jessica's her own person. Her dad's mess is his, not hers. You can't pin that on her. If she knew, she'd feel awful and would be right here with me, trying to make it up to you."
James wanted to stick around, but Rose's constant digs at Jessica were wearing him out. he sighed and said, "You should get some rest. Hit me up if you need anything," before leaving the room.
Not long after James left, Rose heard footsteps outside the ward. In the dead quiet of the night, the sound was sharp and jarring. She thought James had come back and felt a flicker of excitement. But it wasn't James. Ambrose stepped in, looking like he just crawled out of hell.
"You?" Rose's nerves were on edge. "How did you find me?"
Ambrose strolled over to her bed, a cruel smile on his face. "If I want to find you, I will. No matter where you hide, you can't escape me."
Rose's eyes dropped to the blanket, avoiding his intense stare. Ambrose's eyes flicked to her bandaged legs. "Really sucks, huh? Did James's father-in-law really break your legs?"
"If you don't believe me, ask the doctor," Rose shot back, trying to sound tough.
Ambrose's eyes turned fierce, and he suddenly grabbed her neck, his murderous intent clear. Rose's eyes widened in terror, her hands clawing at his. "Let... go… Please..." she pleaded.
His teeth clenched in fury. "You set this up, didn't you? You bribed John's driver, staged the accident, all to frame John and get rid of our kid. Am I right?"
Guilt flashed in Rose's eyes. Ambrose's grip tightened, making it impossible for her to deny it. He seemed to know everything. Her intentions had been clear to him all along.
Just when she thought she was done for, Ambrose let go. She gasped for air, clutching her chest and coughing violently.
Ambrose squinted at her with hatred. "You went through all this just to avoid being with me? Risking our kid's life?"
"I didn't..." Rose started weakly but knew it was a lie. She had wanted to cut ties with Ambrose. If the kid was born, he'd have more control over her. It would ruin any chance she had with James. But despite the accident, her pregnancy had survived.
Ambrose looked at her bandaged legs with a sneer. "Serves you right! If you end up a cripple, James probably won't even look at you!"
He leaned in closer, his voice a chilling whisper. "What do you think would happen if I told James the truth right now? With his love for Jessica, might he kill you himself?"
