Chapter 225 Pregnancy (1)
Jessica got the gist. She snapped, "The school picked the internship department, not me! What could I do? I just ended up in Professor Howard's cardiothoracic surgery department."
James, looking gloomy, said, "You seem pretty happy about it. Planning to apply for his grad program? You never told me."
Jessica hesitated, biting her lip. She hadn't decided yet; Given that Nathan only accepts a limited number of graduate students annually, and with numerous students from prestigious schools vying for spots. The odds weren't great.
Clinging to his arm, she said playfully, "Don't listen to Kylie. She was just talking. I haven't made up my mind."
Seeing her act all cute, James couldn't stay mad. His stern look softened as he lifted her onto his lap. "Feed me," he said with a mischievous grin.
Jessica was stunned. "What?"
Blushing, she picked up a pastry and fed it to him. James took a few bites, enjoying the closeness more than the food.
After a bit, he hugged her tighter and said, "You should rest. I have a lot to deal with."
Jessica nodded, thinking about the half-finished scarf she was knitting for him, hoping to finish it before it got cold. She kissed his cheek and whispered, "I'll wait for you to sleep together."
James smiled as he watched her walk away.
Soon after, his phone rang. It was Rose. They had broken up a while ago, and she hadn't contacted him since.
Staring at the caller ID, James felt conflicted. But he didn't answer.
The phone rang for a long time before stopping. Then Rose called again. The constant buzzing made him anxious. They had been together for years; he couldn't be completely heartless.
Finally, he answered, "Hello."
Rose's choked voice came through, "James, are you okay? I miss you so much."
James frowned and said coldly, "I made it clear last time. We're done."
"But I'm pregnant." Rose's words hit him like a ton of bricks.
He asked in disbelief, "What did you say?"
"I'm pregnant, and the baby is yours," Rose repeated firmly.
James felt his breath quicken. "James, I don't want my child to be born without a father," Rose said, her voice breaking. "I know I messed up before. But I love you, and now we have a child. You can't just ignore us!"
His heart raced, struggling to process. 'Rose is pregnant!' The thought echoed in his head.
Rose continued, "If I hadn't felt nauseous and gone to the hospital, I wouldn't have known. I don't know what to do. I want to let go like you, but our baby is innocent!"
James closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Where are you?"
"At home," she whispered.
