Chapter 326 He Finally Granted Her Freedom Through Divorce (2)

His words struck Jessica like a blow to the chest.

So, he still felt sorry for Rose.

He also thought that John deserved to go to jail.

Seeing her remain silent, James assumed he had convinced her and continued, "You have to understand, when your dad drove into Rose, it was sheer luck that she only broke her legs. If she hadn't dodged in time, she might have lost her life."

Hearing his words, Jessica felt miserable, yet she had no way to argue. Tears welled up in her eyes as she shook her head and said, "Yes, he was wrong, but everything he did was for me. No matter what he did, he's still my dad. I have to save him."

James' tone grew colder as he asked, "Fine. How can you save him? By going against the law?"

Jessica, feeling utterly hopeless, calmly said, "Watson told me that if Rose forgives us and drops the charges, we can settle this out of court. My dad won't have to go to jail. James, please, help me, okay?"

"How can I help? By divorcing you?" James suddenly stood up, veins bulging in his neck, and shouted at her, "What do you take me and our marriage for? Are you going to hand me over to Rose in exchange for your dad's freedom?"

Jessica burst into tears and suddenly knelt in front of him, pleading, "Please, divorce me! Maybe we were a mistake from the start. If you had been with Rose back then, none of this would have happened."

James stood frozen, staring down at Jessica, who was kneeling and pleading for a divorce. She had once smiled sweetly in his arms, whispered she loved him, and knitted scarves to keep him warm. She had silently loved him for so many years. But now, she was begging him to let her go. So, in her heart, he was always the one she could leave without hesitation.

His eyes burned with pain as tears trickled down. He looked up and blinked hard, trying to hold back his tears. The last time he cried was when his mother went missing, and he was just a child.

He spoke coldly, trying hard to suppress the tremor in his voice, "Have you decided? Are you serious?"

Jessica closed her eyes, tears streaming down uncontrollably. She nodded heavily. "Yes, I've decided!"

James reached out to pull her up. Now, his eyes had become clear. He hid it well, not letting Jessica see the tear he had just shed.

He reached out and gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, softly saying, "Jessica, this is the last thing I can do for you."

His gentle words cut like a sharp blade, slicing her heart into pieces and leaving her breathless. Jessica felt a lump in her throat, almost unable to make a sound. "Please, stop talking."

James looked at her deeply for a long time, his eyes cold and resolute. He sighed helplessly and said, "From now on, we have no reason to see each other. Since we're divorced, let's make it final. In the future, make sure to find someone who only has eyes for you. Don't be sad anymore."
