Chapter 214 How Upset You Must Have Been Before

Jessica vented, "Didn't you see this coming? You used me to trap Jack just so you could take him down today, right?"

James, looking cold, replied, "That's too much! Did Linda say something? Jessica, you'd rather believe her over me? You think I'm using you?"

Jessica, shaking her head in despair, said, "I don't know. But if you did, I'd never forgive you!"

James, fuming, slammed the steering wheel and said, "I might not be a saint, but I'd never use my wife. Yes, I'm angry. If you hadn't protected him, I wouldn't have pushed him to the edge! Hate me if you want!"

He got out of the car and walked away.

Jessica watched him leave, feeling guilty. She thought, 'Why do I believe Linda over my husband? I know how much it hurt to be wronged and distrusted.'

Jessica drove home alone. James hadn't returned. She called, but his phone was off. She regretted everything. They had just reconciled, and now she messed it up. With his ego bruised by such misunderstanding, James probably hated her guts now.

Jessica sat on the couch, staring at the door.

Olivia said, "Mrs. Kelly, it's almost eleven. You should go to bed. I'll call you when Mr. Kelly comes back."

"It's okay, Olivia. You go rest. I'll wait." Jessica felt too guilty to sleep.

Just then, the door clicked. James was back, looking calm and carrying a box. Jessica ran to him, not even putting on her slippers.

"You're back?" she asked, breathless. She got his slippers and smiled awkwardly.

James, momentarily surprised by her eagerness, changed into the slippers. Jessica followed him into the living room.

"James, don't be mad. I was wrong," Jessica said quickly. "I shouldn't have believed Linda. I shouldn't have misunderstood you."

James sat on the couch and gestured for her to sit. "Come sit down."

Jessica shook her head, looking like a scolded child. "I'll stand. Will you forgive me, please?"

James sighed, a mix of resignation and affection. "Come here, let's talk."

Jessica nervously sat beside him, clenching her fingers. "Did you regret it already? Are you going to divorce me?"

Seeing her upset, James's anger faded. He felt guilty. "I walked alone and thought about how upset you must have been when I misunderstood you."

Jessica was shocked. She never expected James to understand her feelings.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" James asked with a smile. Then, more serious, he said, "Don't talk about divorce so easily. Promise me, if there's ever a problem, don't overthink it. Just talk to me, okay?"
