Chapter 358 She No Longer Wants to Be a Doctor (4)
Jessica shot Kylie a jealous look and said, "You better not screw up your shift like I did."
Kylie clenched her teeth and snapped, "That's because of your heartless teacher! That woman is pure evil!"
Jessica nudged Kylie, "Get back to your shift and don't be late."
Jessica didn't want to head upstairs, worried Gerald might see her upset and get concerned. So, she sat alone in the little garden behind the hospital.
As the sky got darker, Jessica felt a chill creeping through her bones.
Just then, a pair of leather shoes appeared in front of her.
She looked up and saw Nathan. Her eyes were full of sadness and despair, and she stayed silent. Nathan had already given up on her, so what was there to say?
Nathan said, "So, this is where you've been hiding."
He stared at her, waiting for an explanation. If he hadn't been passing by the garden on his way to the garage and spotted her, he wouldn't have known where to find her.
Nathan was fuming, not just from the pressure from the hospital higher-ups, but also from Jessica dodging him.
Facing Nathan's questions, Jessica stood up calmly and said, "I don't want to be a doctor anymore. From now on, I'm done with anything related to being a doctor. It's a thankless job!"
Nathan scoffed, "You've been hiding all day, and this is what you came up with? So everything I said to you yesterday was for nothing!"
Jessica was full of grievances. Holding back tears, she choked out, "You said a lot yesterday, but your actions didn't match your words. You still didn't believe me and helped Cynthia, pushing me out to take the blame. Now, as you all wished, I'm quitting. I'm not going to be a doctor anymore. Isn't everyone happy now?"
Nathan said in frustration, "If I really pushed you out to take the blame, I wouldn't have argued so strongly with the hospital leadership, almost falling out with the hospital director. Jessica, I hope all my efforts have been worthwhile, but right now it doesn't feel that way. As the person involved, you've been avoiding me, not taking my calls, and ignoring my messages. Now it seems that I was meddling too much! Maybe you're really not suited to be a doctor."
Nathan wasn't usually a talker, especially to a student. It was the first time he had said so much to explain himself, subconsciously not wanting her to misunderstand him.
Jessica looked at him in disbelief, feeling even more aggrieved. She said, "When did you call me? I waited all day for your news, wanting to know the progress. But you didn't call once, and I didn't dare to call you."
Nathan said, "How is that possible? Turn on your phone and see how many times I called you."
Jessica then turned on her phone to check missed calls. However, all of Nathan's dozen or so calls had been automatically blocked by her phone, so she hadn't heard any of them.
Nathan's gaze fell on the blocked calls, and he asked somewhat displeased, "So, did you block me?"
