Chapter 278 Deliberately Pleasing James (1)

"No, no, please, I'm begging you!" Rose clung to Ambrose's hand like her life depended on it. "Ambrose, for the love of everything we've been through, don’t be so heartless. I'm carrying your baby!"

Ambrose just sneered, "But it looks like your heart's all wrapped up in James. Do you even give a damn about our kid?"

Tears streamed down Rose's face as she confessed, "I messed up. From now on, I won't do anything to hurt our baby. Can you give me another shot?"

Ambrose thought for a second and then warned, "Get this straight: James and I can't both be in the picture. I won't let my woman have him in her heart. The only reason I'm letting you stay close to him is to keep tabs on him for me. If I catch you scheming again, you're done."

Meanwhile, James had rolled back to the villa. Jessica was chilling in the courtyard, lost in thoughts about her dad. Rose and James popped into her mind now and then. The sound of the car engine snapped her back to reality.

James hopped out of the car and rushed over, throwing his jacket around her. "It's so late. Why aren't you inside? What are you doing out here in the wind?" He adjusted her clothes, a hint of scolding in his voice. "You trying to catch a cold and make me worry?"

Jessica looked up at him, her cheeks glowing in the moonlight. "I thought you weren't coming back," she mumbled. Rose had called him away earlier; how could she just let him come back so easily?

James, clueless about her deeper feelings, replied, "This is my home. Where else would I go?"

He held her and quickly led her inside. At the entrance, as James was about to change his shoes, Jessica knelt down, offering his slippers.

"Jessica, you…" James was stunned by her gesture.

He quickly helped her up. "I can do it myself."

Jessica stood there awkwardly, not sure how to make James happy.

When they got back to the bedroom, James said softly, "It's almost midnight. You should sleep now; don't you have work in the morning?"

With that, he trudged to the bathroom to take a shower. But Jessica grabbed his hand.

"What's wrong?" James turned back, looking at Jessica with concern.

Jessica trembled, seeing him as her last hope. "James, you'll help me, right? You'll get my dad out, won't you?"

"Yeah, for sure." James said as he picked her up and laid her in bed. "But for now, you need to sleep. I know a lot went down today, and it's tough to handle. But life goes on. If you want to save your dad, you can't fall apart first. Got it?"

Jessica lay there, staring at him with wide, anxious eyes. James kissed her softly. "My girl, close your eyes, and sleep."

He stayed until she finally dozed off, then quietly went to shower.

The next morning, Jessica was up by 5:30. She knew Olivia also woke up early to make breakfast.

"Oh my, Mrs. Kelly, what are you doing here?" Olivia exclaimed, surprised to see her.
