Chapter 165 Have You Recovered So Quickly?
Jessica kept glancing over at the crowd around James and Rose, each look like a stab to her heart. Just when she thought it couldn't get worse, a sharp voice cut through the noise.
"Hah, no wonder you look so shabby, wearing a fake bracelet at such a fancy ball. So, James dumped you for a mistress, huh?"
Jessica was shocked to see Pearl, who had just had a miscarriage, in high heels and a backless dress, looking stunning at the ball. Even more surprising, she wore a bracelet identical to Jessica's.
Pearl sneered, flashing her pink diamond bracelet. "Jessica, this is the real deal, a Master Karen piece, the Pink Heart."
Jessica was momentarily surprised but quickly composed herself. She wore the bracelet because she liked it, not to compete with Pearl. She hadn't stolen it, so why feel ashamed?
Jessica kept her bracelet on and asked Pearl, "Recovered so quickly?"
Pearl looked guilty for a moment, then glared at Jessica. "How dare you mention that? If you hadn't pushed me, I wouldn't have lost my baby! And Grandma is still in detention!"
Pearl's eyes narrowed as she mocked, "Do you know how much Dad hates you now? He regrets ever treating you well!"
Jessica felt a pang of guilt thinking about John, but she had no resentment over his misunderstanding. Pearl's words stung, though.
Just then, the host's voice grabbed everyone's attention. "Tonight's ball has a twist! We'll randomly pair up the men and women who signed up earlier for a dance."
The guests buzzed with excitement. Jessica wasn't interested; she was just there to keep Lily company and had no desire to join in. Pearl, however, was furious. "It's all your fault I missed the sign-up, you jinx!"
If she hadn't been arguing with Jessica, she wouldn't have missed the sign-up. She had wanted to find a wealthy man tonight.
Jessica looked at the stage, ignoring Pearl. Pearl, not giving up, sneered, "You didn't sign up either. Your chance to find a rich man is gone too!"
"Not everyone is as desperate as you," Jessica replied calmly, leaving Pearl humiliated.
Curious, Pearl watched the big screen to see the pairings. When the screen stopped, she saw Jessica's name.
