Chapter 458 Seeing His True Colors (4)
Jessica thought he still misunderstood her relationship with Jack and immediately burst into tears, feeling wronged. "I'm already like this, and you still think I have some unspeakable secret with him! I went to see him just to ask him to drop the charges and let you go!"
She cried like a child, feeling both wronged and angry, hitting him with her uninjured hand.
James felt a warmth in his heart and let her vent.
After a long while, he held her hand, softened his voice, and said, "I didn't think that way. I was just angry that you took it upon yourself to see him and almost got hurt. I'm even angrier that you used self-harm. Do you know how scared I was when I heard you had cut your wrist?"
Jessica broke into a smile through her tears and said, "You're silly. Why would I cut my wrist and commit suicide over a bad person? I was just trying to scare him."
James was taken aback, staring at the bandage on her wrist. "So, is this wound fake too? If it were fake, would the doctor have bandaged it so tightly?"
Jessica smiled and said, "Don't forget, I'm also a doctor. I know exactly where the artery is and how deep it is. How could I cut into an artery? I just lightly touched the skin with a fruit knife and made a small cut. I screamed loudly, so everyone thought I was committing suicide, and it scared Jack quite a bit."
James finally breathed a sigh of relief, pinched her nose, and said with a tone full of affection, "In the future, even if you're pretending, you can't do that. You not only scared him but also almost scared me to death!"
"Okay."
Jessica nodded solemnly and said, "I didn't expect him to be so bold. But I still didn't help you. Now, he'll definitely be more annoyed and target you even more."
James felt so warmed by the sight of Jessica in front of him that he wished he could merge her into his very being.
He kissed her cheek and said, "You've already done great, but Jessica, next time something like this happens, you must discuss it with me first. No man wants his woman to take risks for him, understand?"
Jessica obediently agreed, but she was still worried, afraid that Jack would become even more aggressive.
The doctor said that Jessica only had superficial wounds and was fine to go home.
But James was worried and insisted that Jessica stay in the emergency room for observation overnight.
Jessica smiled helplessly and said, "I'm really fine, it's just a small cut and a bit of blood."
Then, she said somewhat awkwardly, "James, I'm hungry. I want to eat those egg tarts from the shop across the street."
"Okay, I'll go get them for you."
James rubbed her head and said gently, "Wait here for me."
After he left, Jessica gently placed her hand on her lower abdomen.
She softly said, "Baby, I scared you today, didn't I? Don't blame Mommy, and don't blame Daddy. We both love you very much."
Although the little life in her belly couldn't move yet, she always felt it was a magical presence.
It could give her endless strength in desperate situations.
Not long after, she heard footsteps outside the door.
"Did you come back so quickly? Don't they always have a long line?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Jessica realized it was Nathan.
